Scents That Smell like a Holiday Without Costing like One

  • By Bryan Goh

If you are reading this article during the time of its posting, you might be slumped over your office desk wondering why you are in a cubicle instead of somewhere else in the world hiking a mountain, swimming in a lagoon or….having paid money to do nothing. We’re also going to give you the bad news — the next public holiday is a month away. The good news, however, is that while it might be a while before you jet off, we’ve curated some scents that’ll make you feel like you’re actually overseas. Close your eyes, take a whiff and feel the rush. You’re welcome.

Pictured Above: Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Giò Absolu Instinct.
The salty notes of seawater, the smokiness of driftwood and bitterness of marine notes are housed in this handsome bottle that is inspired when the sea meets precious wood. It sounds like a John Green movie but smells like an episode of John Wick.

Calvin Klein ck one

The 2.0 of the famous ck one encourages you to splash it on lavishly: kinda like how you would shower off the saltiness of the sea except that this water will make you smell of citrusy bergamot, tangy pineapple, and fresh roses.

Ermenegildo Zegna Mediterranean NEROLI

On the Mediterranean coast, it’s all sunny. In the bottle of Ermenegildo Zegna’s latest fragrance named after the destination, it’s sunny thanks to neroli and estragon (urh, it’s not a typo, it’s an herb) but warm spicy saffron and labdanum provides an after-dark appeal.

Givenchy Gentleman Givenchy

There’s no denying the fresh burst of earthy iris and sparkling citrus in this flacon but the added dose of masculine leather lends it some downtown finance-highflyer-from-Brooklyn-who-djs-on-the-side-and-does-street-art complexity.

Gucci The Voice of the Snake, Oud.

We don’t care so much for Taylor Swift’s Snakiness (urgh, get over it Taylor) when Gucci has decided to name their latest fragrance after the reptile itself. Its voice is infinitely stronger than the pop starlet — Dark oud, woody patchouli and astringent saffron but if you want us to dial down the shade, it smells like one heck of an exotic holiday.

Tom Ford Oud Wood

Like the designer himself, this cologne is a whiff of testosterone. Like, hiking-up-a-Bhutan-mountain-and-camping-without-a-tent masculine. Chalk it up to the masculine design or down to the luxe ingredients — exotic rosewood, spicy cardamon, and smoky sandalwood.
