Is there a bag capable of meeting an international superstar’s every need? Gucci has a contender, and it’s already a fast favourite of new ambassador Jin’s.
In case you missed it — Jin of BTS is Gucci’s newest Global Ambassador. Fresh out of the military, the eldest member of BTS has already begun carving a bigger name for himself in the pop culture space; having clinched a Fred global ambassadorship and borne the torch at the 2024 Paris Olympics. With a new partnership with Gucci under his belt, it is no wonder fans are already commiserating the good news with anticipation — of whether or not the “Worldwide Handsome” will appear at the next Gucci Fashion Week showing. “Gucci is an iconic brand with a long-standing heritage and modernity. It is meaningful and thrilling to be a part of such a house,” said the singer on his appointment.
Which begs the question: what is the uniform for someone who has conquered the global charts? And is there a backpack worthy of rubbing shoulders with one of the 21st century’s biggest pop sensations? Would it be something entrenched in heritage, or something so evolutionary and modern — as if a prelude to one’s forward-thinking approaches to musicality?
The answer goes by the name of Gucci’s Gucci Explorer backpack. As new to the house as Jin of BTS, Gucci’s high volume backpack marries the house’s longtime legacy as the fashioners of great travel style, as well as its latest route towards the ultra-sleek.
In full-nylon, the backpack is monochromatically subtle and yet as loud as one would like it to be. Created with a high frequency embossing technique, a large-format Gucci logo materialises in subtlety. This loud and soft juxtaposition technique is design practice that seems to echo the house’s new creative director Sabato de Sarno’s approach to creation. And this delicate exercise in branding is executed once more on Jin’s durable bag of choice, that first made its debut alongside the rest of de Sarno’s inaugural menswear collection for Fall Winter 2024. Blink-and-you’ll-miss it web detailing extends to the one of the bag’s two front zip compartments, a tab of green and red tucked away in the south of the darkened nylon pockets.
And do not be fooled by its gorgeous make — in its seamless craftsmanship, precise silver hardware, and delicate sheen. The Gucci Explorer is wholly capable function-wise. With a built-in laptop compartment, a skin fashioned out of one of the most durable and lightweight fabrics, and water resistance by nature, it is practicality made pretty. And it is perfect for any long-haul schedules or ample packing that might be demanded of a booked-and-busy global sensation.
