According to Doctor Coni Liu, a dermatologist at DS Skin & Wellness Clinic, Profhilo Body works on everything from skin laxity on the arms and tummy to early burns on the body.
Perhaps the simplest way to explain what Profhilo is would be to say that it is the purest form of hyaluronic acid (it helps too, that it generates four types of collagen and elastin) injected into the upper layers of the skin with a very small needle. And when we say small, we are talking about a gauge that is smaller than one used for Botox or fillers, and in fact, a Profhilo injection is so painless and quick that one might not even notice it till he or she is prompted to rise from the bed.
Unlike fillers (botox is quite 2000 and late, in our opinion though one can pair it with Profhilo Body), the hyaluronic acid used has a runny texture which allows it to disperse into the skin where it then performs something dermatologists call “a remodeling action” on the tissues. “Remodelling” refers to renewed collagen formation in the skin and with this increased density of collagen, the support structure of the skin is stronger and ‘fuller’ and this “reshapes” the skin to look more youthful — plumper and smoother. It tightens the skin where age, stretching or weight change has damaged the elasticity.” says Doctor Liu.

While some might then contend that simply using a skincare product containing hyaluronic acid is more affordable and accessible, they need to know that hyaluronic acid has a “high molecular weight” in its natural state which makes it too large to actually sink into the skin to replenish itself. To put it simply again, the hyaluronic acid in skincare is unlike the one that naturally occurs in one’s body, the former sits on the surface to hydrate while the latter controls the water content inside the skin.
In Doctor Liu’s words, however — DS Skin & Wellness Clinic is one of the first few clinics in Singapore to roll out the treatment — Profhilo Body does not differ that much from the Profhilo that is injected into the face. “The ingredients and the technique of injection are the same for the face and the body, but it is the dosage that differs according to various body parts. With all medications and treatments, however, allergies and reactions are possible. But as hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin, rejection is very unlikely with Profhilo Body.”
“One can consider Profhilo Body when early signs of loss of skin elasticity show around 25 to 30 years old. The usual areas are the arms or tummy despite having an optimal diet and regular exercise but I suppose any part of the body can benefit from Profhilo. Other ideal candidates are those who are going through post-partum (after delivery) or individuals who have gone through excessive weight loss.”
“Profhilo Body, however, might work for early burns when the scar is not established. However, one should opt for the treatment within the first six months or up to 1 year of the onset of skin damage which is when the skin is more responsive to the remodeling benefits of Profhilo Body.”
What then makes DS Skin & Wellness Clinic the best place to smooth and tighten? A body patch and cream are provided post-treatment where the former contains hyaluronic acid and plant extracts that soothe and reduces swelling while the latter contains hyaluronic acid and peptides to promote remodeling and restore cell functions. Just remember that one needs to do at least two jabs: deep hydration is promised after the first and a more obvious tightening effect is obvious after the second.
