While business analysts and serious reporters have claimed that the global pandemic has been one hell of a nightmare for the fashion industry, we’re looking on the bright side — it had fashion houses producing some creative responses in the way they show their collections.
Virgil Abloh, the genius behind Louis Vuitton menswear hasn’t just completely reversed what we usually associate with a runway show because he has completely flipped it on its head.
If you’re unaware by now, the Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring Summer 2021 Show isn’t just a show.
It is a show that will be shown over the next few months through both physical and digital mediums.
The Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring Summer 2021 Show (also titled “Message in a Bottle”) is presented as both a virtual and literal voyage across the world. It starts off at Louis Vuitton’s ancestral home in Asnières, outside of Paris where it follows movers packing up shipping containers onto a barge before setting sail beyond Paris.
And we haven’t even gotten to the stars of it — a motley crew of animated characters called ‘Zoooom with friends’ who are hiding on board as stowaways (we’re crossing our fingers that they appear as motifs for the Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring Summer 2021 Show)
While all cute, charming and dandy, the Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring Summer 2021 Show is also Aboh’s nod to sustainability.
Founded in four methods of upcycling, the Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring Summer 2021 Show fashions feature new looks made from recycled materials while repeating looks from the Fall/Winter 2020 collection or even looks created in a freestyle manner during the lockdown (of course, using recycled materials) and even silhouettes created from existing ideas.
