#TheUnexpectedFind: the Golden Age of Bulgari's Octo Finissimo Line

Every week, we delve deep into the Dropbox or Google Drive folders sent by brands (or as they call it, a Press Folder) to find something unexpected, desirable and a little bit off-brand. Here we have Bvlgari’s Octo Finissimo collection in gold.

As part of the 10th year anniversary celebrating Bvlgari’s Octo Finissimo line, the Italian Maison expands its range to include new precious metal outfits for both the Octo Finissimo Automatic and the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT. The GMT Chronograph gets lavish with a rose gold makeover while the Automatic is magnified in brilliance in either rose or yellow gold.

Launched in 2014, it was designed to challenge the thinness of watches, reaching new heights in the art of watchmaking that sought a balance between Swiss expertise and Italian style. Beyond its technical prowess, its identifiable octagon shape also makes up a big reason for its permanent placement as an icon in the world of horology — masculine yet subtle in its angles, it’s a piece of evidence that the elegance of geometry always wins in the talk of aesthetics.

The transformation of the automatic GMT chronograph launched in 2019 sees the 3.3 mm thick and 43 mm-diameter octagonal cases dipped in satin-brushed rose gold, especially opulent when seen together with its brown alligator leather strap and brown lacquered dial. Controlled by pushers on either side of the case, the chronograph and GMT functions are driven by the integrated automatic Manufacture movement, making the slimmest mechanical chronograph ever made now also one of the most decadent.

As for the Octo Finissimo Automatic, the play on contrasts between both rose and yellow gold against the brown-lacquered dial endows character and a silent but sure kind of power. Operating on an optimised self-winding Manufacture movement, BVL Calibre 138, its 208 components and 31 jewels retains its record slimness of 2.23 mm while introducing for the first time, an alternating matte and polished effect on the case and bracelet of the timepiece.

While the rose gold model of the automatic is part of the regular collection, the yellow gold version will only be available to the American market, offered in a 50-piece limited edition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Bvlgari boutique in the United States.
