Each week, we dive into the vast archives of our favourite brands and houses to extract and share their most luxurious (and thus, pricey) miscellanea. This week, our drip of choice is ZEGNA’s Oasi Cashmere Collection.
Not all drip is iced out and flashy. Luxury at its highest form is about effortlessness, an object or experience that evokes sincerity, an effervescent warmth that can be both physical and emotional. More than rare in intention, it is seldom successfully executed. Which is why ZEGNA’s Oasi Cashmere from their Autumn 2022 collection qualifies as perhaps one of the more meaningful drips in this column — rich in heritage, emotion and planet-positivity.
Made as a tribute to the natural territory that surrounds the original ZEGNA wool mill in the mountains of Piedmont, Northern Italy, Oasi Cashmere is the forerunning puzzle piece to ZEGNA becoming fully traceable by 2024. It is conceptualised based on the assumption that the very best garments can only come from the best natural resources, hence the best natural resources need to be cared for, and can be traced.
This is all enabled by ZEGNA’s vertically integrated business model, which allows all the creations to be responsible and accountable, from start to finish. As authentication of their commitment to traceability, ZEGNA has enclosed in all their clothing a QR code that shows the entire journey of the Oasi Cashmere collection, from the cashmere farms in Mongolia to the stores as well as bringing you to Oasi Zegna — where the campaign has been shot.
For the collection, creative director Alessandro Sartori puts together these precious fabrics into sophisticated and timeless shapes; overshirts and crewneck sweaters echo the same eternality that the lush Oasi ZEGNA embodies. It’s almost as if the sprites of the forest rest within the rich yet subdued hues of emerald green, ochre, eggplant purple and brick.
Blazers, coats and joggers remind us of Sartori’s contemporary hand at work — the casual slant of modern formalwear maintained with grace, while still effortlessly fit to wear in any century or era.
For all the beauty there is in the touch of fabric, there is beauty in the values it stands for. If that isn’t what luxury is for you, hopefully, ZEGNA’s continuous journey towards traceability and their love for nature will change that.
