Pedro’s Hybrix Series for Fall 2023 Is A Bold Embrace of Experimentation

  • By Vanessa Ng

Pedro embraces the spirit of refinement with the highly-anticipated HYBRIX series for Fall 2023.

What is the purpose of experimentation in today’s cycle-dominated fashion sphere? Some may argue that in the lens of the industry, short-spanned hype can only go so far in an ever-evolving, microtrend-loving market. Yet, a glimpse into this season’s trends in menswear can serve to underscore the importance of innovation — especially in design — to consumers today. Be it the return of the unyielding cargo pant, or a passing blokecore moment, the cyclicality of trends are only achievable when tweaks and improvements result in a modern elevation of a product. Futurism, thus, bears greater saliency in small steps, as opposed to 180-degree overhauls that dismiss past trends as passé.

For Pedro, a local brand that abides by the rules of “relating, refining and reinventing”, this idea of small-yet-punchy experimentation falls well within its scope of design. In the brand’s latest FW23 release, its HYBRIX series is revived to imbue odes to the past, modernised by boldness for the present. In reality, a chunky outsole and a sock slip-on boot are not novel details. Both design elements have made its way around the industry, cropping up when timely, to only be forgotten about until the market decides its next return. While it is difficult to retrace and timestamp exactly the origins of either, the revival of both for the HYBRIX collection reflects the brand’s reverent commitment to its vision. Refined and reinvented, Pedro’s FW23 capsule has done away with the idea of trend-backed design, instead opting to forge ahead with an iconoclastic ode to the iconic.

While the term, “iconic”, has been used too loosely, too often, the very iconoclast ethos is what makes the silhouette so. A sense of renown is visually obvious, wherein the two “fads” have been combined to create a signature for the brand. Now fashioned in the philosophy of subversion and reinvention, shiny new upgrades are bestowed upon the collection: a vibrant cobalt colour way and a knit high-top construction are among the dynamic additions to the line-up. Crafted with precision, the shoe silhouette contrasts a chunky bottom outsole against that of a sleeker upper, creating a seamless unification of timeless and intriguing silhouettes.
