#ManCrushMonday — Mew Suppasit Slips into A Pair of Everywhere Shoes
The pair of everywhere shoes Mew Suppasit is wearing? It’s called the Ermenegildo Zegna Triple Stitch Sneaker.

In early March this year, a pair of Nike Kobe Bryant 2s was aunctioned for a whopping USD$156,000 which became somewhat of an internet sensation, sort-of like Kylie Jenner’s flash stack of Cartier bangles if you will. If you think about it however, this brings about a question. Are sneakers now investments? Within the landscape of sneaker culture of recent years — the supreme collabs (brand-led or metaphorically), four-figure pairs or hardcore raffles — have we somehow forgotten what makes a pair of sneakers that damn great?

While sneakers come in many a moniker as of recent years, let’s not forget what they should really do by throwing back to their invention in the 1870s. They were first called plimsolls and were worn by vacationers and sportsmen because firstly, they were comfortable. Secondly, they allowed for a form of fashion democracy. Women started wearing them in the ’80s when they started realising that a life of house wife-ery wasn’t for them as did the men who wore them as they cheered on IPOs in the stock market. We could go on to talk about hip hop culture in the ’90s but that’s a story for another time.

In 2021 however, between the internet-breaking collaborations and the retro reissues, Mew Suppasit has his feet firmly on the ground with a pair of everyday shoes: the Ermenegildo Zegna Triple Stitch Sneaker. What however, makes it great for the everyday?

The answer is simple: it requires no thought to it. It’s minimalist but not in an intellectual way (the devil is in the details, just three pairs of X’s to punctuate a point) , it’s luxurious without looking stuffy (slipping into it is like stepping on a cloud) and most importantly, it does what a pair of everyday shoes should do. Freeing up brain space for you to do other things.

While it comes in 30 colour and material variations, the particular pair Mew is wearing comes with the #UseTheExisting™ hashtag: a signifier that the Italian House has incorporated repurposed materials into it. And that, is a fashion message we can get behind.
