Watches for Corporate Life and to Welcome Adulthood

  • By Bryan Goh

If you are reading this right now and you are younger than the average Korean pop star (lucky you!), you might also be graduating from university soon. Everybody is also going to say that their late ’20s were the best years of their lives — financial freedom, eating at fancy restaurants and going out to meet people — but what they fail to tell you is that there is a fair chance that colleagues will judge your choice of timepiece.

It sucks but before you rush out to drop some serious cash on one, here is a guide on workplace-friendly ones for your first job to forever (suitable beyond the office confines as well). They’ll make your handshake firmer (don’t be an applicant, be an appli-can) and if all else fails, at least they won’t make you look like an insurance bro.

This timepiece is big — 40mm in diameter big which means it’s already a statement in itself. Thankfully, its’ material choice of a steel or gold face with bracelet and rubber strap options means you can choose accordingly to what suits your lifestyle more (gold face with rubber strap is a recommended combination that easily transits from work to play).

TAG Heuer Monaco

When the TAG Heuer Monca debuted in ’69, people went crazy over it thanks to its futuristic look and water resistance. Five decades later, the good people at TAG Heuer are releasing five limited-edition tributes to the OG. The third is reminiscent of the great USA — a blue strap, sleek silvery face and red accents to elevate a darker suit (P.S. it’s HR approved).

Tissot Heritage 1973

Casual Fridays call for equally casual watches — Tissot’s Heritage 1973 features a Panda dial housed in a sapphire crystal curved case that provides a better fit on the wrist.

Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark

The body of Tudor’s Black Bay Chrono Black is brushed steel coated in a deep matte black PVD treatment — a tribute to the All Blacks (New Zealand’s national rugby team). Even if you are allergic to sports (or balls in general), it still looks good when worn to a sports bar.

Zenith Chronograph Automatic El Primero

El Primero translates to “The First”, a befitting term for a watch that is the world’s first independent developed automatic chronograph (TLDR: it’s a pretty handsome watch). If this timepiece seems a little too mature — look buddy, you have youth on your side.
