Our planet’s natural wonders of water are not only capable of creating the comforting sounds of gushing waves that are metronomic to the ears, but is also one that beckons an aquatic adventure to those who dare dip their toes into it. Anyone who has been near a body of water knows how enticing it is to jump into. Dior taps into just that by inviting us to a thrill of exploration with their latest eco-friendly masterpiece: an exquisite surfboard.
Dreamed up by creative director of the Dior, Kim Jones and eco-conscious surfboard brand, NOTOX, the surfboard embodies the core values of innovation and sustainability, while paying tribute to the beauty of the sea.
Every step that is taken into the making of the surfboard reveals the attention to detail that goes into its creation. From the combination of aesthetics and performance to the use of sustainably sourced materials, this exclusive surfboard represents the pinnacle of extreme sports hobbies elevated with a touch of luxury.
The surfboard is first modelled in 3D for optimal shape and design, before it is entrusted in the hand of the expert craftsmen in the atelier of NOTOX, The Basque, the home of surfing in France and Europe. Using their hands as sculpting tools, the foam bar is shaped with infinite precision, fiberglass is carefully applied, and a low-solvent resin is used, creating a smooth and homogeneous surface. Every curve and contour is carefully considered with the environment in mind while ensuring the board’s ability to glide seamlessly on the water.
Taking into the account how the surfboard will interact with the rhythmic rise and fall of the ocean waves, the Dior surfboard is meticulously crafted to the surfer’s cruises to be synonymous with the waves during their surf session. Exceptional control, stability and manoeuvrability is thanks to the two daggerboards or ‘twin fins’, setting the surfboard apart from conventional ones which usually have three daggerboards. Dior’s surfboard is engineered for surfers of intermediate to advanced levels, so they can cruise the waves with steady confidence.
Unveiled in an elegant shade of grey and adorned with the surfboard the iconic “Dior” signature motifs, the surfboard captures the essence of the oceans. The underwater snapshot that fills the Dior emblem represents a strong link between fashion and diving into unexpected realms.
