Soundwave's RE/SET Ushers In A New Era Of Electronic Euphoria
The Indonesian electronic artist-couple duo Soundwave announce the release of their long-awaited debut album, RE/SET.

Amidst the ever-changing sonic landscape, there are few artists who manage to truly thrive without some form of artistic overhaul halfway (and sometimes more than once) through their careers. Rebirths and renaissances are part and parcel of human growth and the creative process, so often times seeing a “re” is a positive telltale sign of self transcendence.

That seems to be the case for Soundwave, the Indonesian electronic husband-and-wife duo Jevin Julian and Rinni Wulandari, who are finally releasing their debut album “RE/SET” since joining forces at a local music competition show, The Remix, in 2015. Having tied the knot and become parents in the past seven years, this time spent away from the craft seems to have really helped their collective artistry ripen with emotional and experiential complexity.

Which lands us here today with the enigmatic “RE/SET”. At first listen, the album springs energy from a polished and mature sound, marking the triumphant return of EDM-lovers who have grown, sobered up, and then come back to make music with a new-found confidence and zeal. Self-produced by Soundwave, the tracks transform Julian and Wulandari’s self-doubt into courage and cool, Wulandari’s charismatic rapping and Gwen Stefani-like siren voice soaring above Julian’s pompous musical arrangements.

Comprising of 11 tracks, the album includes previously released singles like the infectious “Automatic Restart”, dance-bop “Love Me, You Do” and the tropical “Sing and Dance With Me” that croons alongside words that depict the duo’s love-at-first-sight moment. But the highlight is “Whatever It Takes”, an anthem-like track that celebrates Soundwave’s fans’ support for the duo through all this time.

On what it means to have such a rare chemistry with a lover and creative collaborator, Julian said, “It’s new motivation daily, knowing that (they) are able to experiment and work together to come up with different music and fall in love with the process of creating something new each time.” And with that, there is no stopping this duo from reaching new heights now.
