The 2025 Met Gala came and went, and as always, it has left a buzz in its wake. The exhibition was titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, with the event’s dress code stated as “Tailored For You.”
While themes leave a lot of room for the imagination, the central focus was on black dandyism, relating to its namesake of tailored fits. Under all the aesthetics also lied the commentary of Western politics and race, resulting in various fashion interpretations throughout the event.
The timepieces of the night told a more diverse story, however. They ranged from extensions of the celebrities’ outfits to a reflection of their personalities. Shaboozey’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak with a turquoise dial, for instance, matched his beaded outfit perfectly, while Colman Domingo and his unreleased Omega Speedmaster spoke more of his interest in horology than his sartorial statement (which he did through his outfits, by the way).
