Nicholas Kirkwood: the Valedictorian

  • By Men's Folio

If the fashion world were a big high school, Nicholas Matthew Kirkwood would most definitely win the Valedictorian award. This German-born designer has won plenty of awards and recognition during his growing career ranging from Condé Nast, Swarovski and Vogue Italia; and with a hefty list of collaborative designs (which includes the likes of Erdem, Swarovski and Rodarte), he has become a darling amongst many of the fashion’s elite; Cecilia Dean, André Leon Talley and Franca Sozzani are fans. Long gone were the days where he worked under Phillip Treacy as a milliner.

He just added a mens shoe line on his transcript, “I’ve tried to keep some of the DNA from the woman’s collection in the use of fabrications and curtain lines and re-work them onto decisively more masculine structures,” he comments on the collection; and there is no doubt the Kirkwood fan base is sure to grow bigger and better as the years to come. I won’t be surprise if he keeps a trophy room to stock up on all his awards.
