Hermès Proposes an Exuberant Tribute to the Joy of Spring/Summer 2023 Season
Hermès Spring Summer 2023 menswear collection is an exuberant tribute to the joy of the season.

Creativity thrives in an open, family-oriented environment at Hermès. Art, culture and craftsmanship form its core philosophy — manifested in how the brand continuously marches to the beat of its drum, regardless in its leather goods, ready-to-wear, cosmetics or everything in between. The same ethos punctuates the Hermès Spring Summer 2023 menswear collection, of which artistic director Véronique Nichanian showcases a poetic resonance in simplicity of gentlemen’s dressings that respond to the joy of the bright, vibrant season.

Lightness is key to this collection. The French House strips away the bells and whistles by opting for an archetypal men’s wardrobe redefined by the precise craftmanship of the hand and the nonchalance of an unencumbered mind. Silhouettes are boxy and tensile; rendered in delicate, airy materials, including light technical satin, Herbier dévoré technical cotton, Berlingot canvas, linen and compact cotton poplin. A gesture to allow wearers to dive into the summer breeze without compromising style and comfort.

Some are accentuated in mirror-like materials, delicately reflecting light when it hits their aqueous surface. The embellishing colours are sweetly poetic — lemonade, lagoon, lilac, bubble gum, and melon — which sometimes turns pastel or white when light hits. Since the clothes form part of the summer collection, the print’s reference to marine life is apropos — motifs of seahorses, crayfishes, kelps, sunset and water ripples adorned oversized knitwear, elongated tank tops, two- tone turtle necks and cropped blousons.

The dressing has been made intentionally uncomplicated, leaving ample space for styling and layering — thus creating a harmonic balance between the gentle collision of lounge and formal menswear codes. Crisp pyjama suiting is delivered with discreet elasticated trousers beneath the jacket’s hemline, thigh-high shorts are paired with a loose-fitting jacket and unbuttoned mandarin collar shirt underneath, and a knitted shirt over a similar tone turtle neck is layered with fluid pleated trousers in ankle length. This ease is also translated to the accessories, which were unabashedly roomy and functional.
