Gucci Loves A Good Beach Club

  • By Vanessa Grace Ng

Making a splash for summer is Gucci, presenting its Gucci Lido resort collection that is as vivacious as a party on a Tuscan seafront.

It is not a secret that the Italians love their dolce vita lifestyle. The gentle caress of a breeze provides that much-needed cool, juxtaposed against the unrelenting Italian rays of light. A refreshing dip in a coastal body of water is punctuated by retreats to the coastline, for another Aperol Spritz break. That murmur and chatter that stays in the background of one’s mind, supplemented by the gentle beach club hymnals that go on and on, never pausing for a beat. Conversations are made optional, but that carouse-mood always awaits. It is a narrative that has almost become synonymous with a facet of Italian living, as repeatedly propagated by film, television and fashion. Situated smack in the middle ground of serenity and festivity, that summer-specific fantasy is Gucci’s muse for the season.

Gucci Lido is the resultant offspring of creative director Sabato De Sarno’s infatuation with the Italian way of life — as he experienced firsthand. A refresher on Gucci’s (and De Sarno’s) Italian roots, the lido — or the beach clubs that perch on the country’s coastlines — is paid attention to like never before. Examined in all forms, before influencing a full range of summer-friendly staples, the coastal living charm is translated into straw-effect raffia and canvas bags, hyper-hued GG canvas accessories and resort-wear that will leave any jet-setter wanting to repeat an outfit for their summer stays. It is that very essence of vitality — in the spontaneity that the coastal cities demand, the whimsy that the landscape brings, and the immeasurable pleasure that is experienced — that Gucci has sought out and then bottled up into creating its Lido collection.

A series of in-store pop-ups are thus scheduled to reiterate the house’s commitment to bringing that resort feel to clients worldwide. Famed resort destinations, from Capri to the Hamptons and Saint-Tropez to Porto Cervo, are set to host the collection in true summer fashion. The same salty breeze and elemental immersions layers on like a slather of sunscreen — adding dimension to what the maison seeks to presen: an Italian oceanfront fever dream, and its newest capsule of brights. Because who can host a la dolce vita reception like the Italians? And who better to do it than an Italian luxury house like Gucci, who has developed a name for bigger and better living?
