Discover the Gabrielle Chanel’s universe through the Les Exclusifs de Chanel collection at the Chanel Parfumeur Masterclass @ Clarke Quay.
Of our five senses, the sense of smell is most closely linked with memory, more so than the other four senses. Research has shown that scents evoke particular memories thanks to the olfactory function, conjuring, at times, vivid recollections. The faint bouquet of flowers could remind you of childhood picnics while the aroma of cinnamon and clove transports you back to your family’s Christmas party. It is this powerful association that Chanel taps into for its Les Exclusifs de Chanel fragrance collection, each evoking chapters of Gabrielle Chanel’s life.
Given the ephemeral nature of scents, Chanel is hosting the Chanel Parfumeur Masterclass at Clarke Quay. This showcase offers a unique opportunity to experience the house’s creativity and expertise in perfumery. The first storey, adorned in Chanel’s signature black and white colours, is a time capsule with exhibits modelled after the 19 Les Exclusifs de Chanel fragrances. Each fragrance is accompanied by compelling visuals, narrating the significant milestones of Mademoiselle’s life. For instance, the Gardénia and 31 rue Cambon were respectively formulated in the image of Mademoiselle’s emblem, the camellia flower, and her haute couture atelier.
The newly released Comète eau de parfum, a tribute to Mademoiselle’s 1932 Bijoux de Diamants jewellery collection, is among the 19 fragrances. Created by Chanel’s in-house perfumer-creator Olivier Polge, Comète begins with an intensely floral bouquet of cherry blossoms, leaving a trail of heliotrope and powdery iris notes reminiscent of a comet’s tail.
The experience is not just a passive one. Guests are invited to actively participate in the Chanel Parfumeur Masterclass. They can analyse their scent preferences through the Les Caracteres de Chanel personality test or the Le Quart D’Heure Alchimique program. After selecting three images and keywords that resonate with them in a tarot card reading like session, a trio of fragrances is carefully chosen to suit their preferences. The journey for specially invited guests continues to the second storey with the exclusive Chanel Parfumeur Masterclass. Here, a second world of discovery awaits, led by the iconic Chanel N°5 as the house’s signature scents, ingredients and fragrance-wearing tips are introduced by Chanel’s in-house fragrance experts.
The Chanel Parfumeur Masterclass is located at CQ @ Clarke Quay, Block B #B1-08, and is open to the public from now until 2 June 2024 from 11am to 9pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and 10am to 9pm on Friday to Sunday and on public holidays.
