Holiday season is upon us, and Fendi is filled with not only joy but also history — nearly a century’s worth, to be precise. As the the brand approaches their centennial, Fendi’s Winter Holiday 2024 collection embodies a profound reflection on the brand’s storied heritage with bold stylistic subversions that redefine their classic codes.
Under the creative direction of Silvia Venturini Fendi, this collection encapsulates the essence of sophistication and irreverence alongside tradition and modernity. At the heart of it all, is the Fendi Tartan, a fabric that symbolises the brand’s legacy.
In collaboration with Prickly Thistle, an artisanal Scottish brand known for its commitment to craftsmanship, the Fendi Tartan was reimagined as a modern icon and honours key dates and family legacy — think 1925, 1997, 2009. They trace back to the birth of the Italian house, the debut of the iconic Baguette and Peekaboo bag, woven together into a fabric that is as much history book as it is winter must-have. More than a nod to the past, the Fendi Tartan, in natural colours and yellow thread, is a living archive and title that carries the Italian house’s legacy into the present.
A sense of familial connection extends throughout its menswear, as Fendi puts it, “I often think of Fendi as a clan, and Fendi Clan is also the title of the men’s collection.”
The collection layers classicism with its boyish energy and almost mischievous codes where tailored trousers and blousons offer structure, while sumptuous shearling coats and velvet corduroy workwear add a cosy, rough-hewn luxury perfect for winter’s chill and evokes the warmth of home and the comfort of familial bonds.
The playful “Fendilicious” motifs of fast-food-inspired designs, appearing on FF jacquard Baguettes and casual pieces like tees and sweatshirts, inject a sense of humour and embraces the joy of the present, inviting wearers to celebrate the festive season with both luxury and lightness.
In womenswear, the holiday season unwraps with equal finesse. From layered looks combining miniskirts and trousers to oversized outerwear, these pieces invite the wearer to redefine luxury on their own terms. The collection’s infuses a casual, almost effortless elegance, ensuring that each look resonates as both refined and thoroughly modern.
Accessories complete this holiday narrative, offering the utilitarian moments of whimsy and pure, playful luxury. Bags such as the iconic Baguette and Peekaboo styles are reimagined with metallic finishes, sequins, and soft construction. The materials range from tactile leathers to unique iterations like the Florentine paper croco, a handcrafted piece made with an ancient technique adapted from Chinese paper-making — a nod to the legacy of Fendi’s founder, who first learned her craft in Florence. Whether one is bundling up against the cold or just looking for that statement accessory, these are pieces built to last and to pass down.
Fendi’s Winter Holiday 2024 collection is more than a celebration of the season, it offers a narrative of fashion as inheritance where the pieces are cherished and reinterpreted by each generation.
