Fendi proposes a feminine take on its eyewear collection for FW23.
In the eyes of standard menswear, extravagance has not always translated to ease in wear. Historically, eyewear frames have found more success in being thinner, sleeker, and subtler. For Fall ’23, Silvia Venturini Fendi, looks the other way. The Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear devises an antithetical take in the exaggerated shape of Fendi O’Lock and Fendi Shadow frames. Traditional conventions of masculine accessorising are relinquished, following the house’s blueprint of louder-and-prouder design codes.
Attributable in part to its matriarchial lineage — Silvia Venturini is the third generation of Fendi to lead — the house has had a tendency for adopting classically feminine customs for its menswear collections. Here, intricacies are ample, as thick bridges and thicker temples are adorned to the optical line, the latter of which enjoys treatment in the form of experimental Fendi-fication.
More is more, as metal-lined cut-outs and embossed Fendi motifs are rivalled with a range of rainbow-hued lenses. In toeing the line of flamboyance, Fendi Shadow and O’Lock present a worthy challenge for even the most masculine of wardrobes.
