Onitsuka Tiger introduces the TIGER WARAJI — a modern day sandal inspired by the traditional Japanese footwear of the same name.
Onitsuka Tiger is well-known for making cult sneakers. In fact, the brand has been so good at it that it has been increasingly hard to imagine a world without the four tiger stripes — especially when one looks at just how often the shoes have been adorned, adored and endorsed in films and by celebrities.
Its recent releases insist that there is much more to the brand than just trendy shoes. Cue the TIGER WARAJI, the brand’s behemoth exemplar of when history meets innovation. Constructed with the same philosophy as the traditional Japanese footwear of the same name — informal footwear made typically with straws and ropes — Onitsuka Tiger saw an opportunity to create a modern iteration paired with the palettes (and trends) of today’s consumers. That includes encasing it in a variety of punchy colours and soft velvet, no less.
It also features a certain height and tangibility thanks to a hard and durable footbed. Yet, the sandal retains the lightweight and fuss-free nature of its original inspiration — even as it looks and feels like a pair of footwear that was hotly grabbed off the runway.
