What makes some of these local or global creatives tick? In this weekly column, co-founder of Lab Studios Jasmine Chong shares her favourite things.
1. Symmetry In Design and Nature: I love moments when I find symmetry and order, especially with design and nature. It feeds the part of me which craves order in chaos, much like what I hope Lab Studios is able to provide to the Lab Studios Community – creating a safe space for peaceful moments whenever people walk through the doors of Lab Studios.
2. The Lion and the Lamb by Patrick Bezalel: My favorite painting because it encapsulates power and innocence in one.
3. Cooking For Her Son: Since I was young, I lived with my grandma, where she spent her time in the kitchen, cooking my favourite dishes – that was how she represented her love and how I have known to receive love. Now that I have my son, I find cooking for him as a form of giving my love to him.
4. Inversions: The practice of inversions have taught me to feel the fear and do it anyway like nothing else has. This reflects not just in yoga poses, but in the way we do things at Lab Studios. We believe in risking it for the things we love.
5. Local Food: Born and bred Singaporean girl! Nothing beats a shiok bowl of bak chor mee!
6. Her Family: Ever since I’ve become a mother, I have this innate sense to want to be a better person for the sake of my son. To be a better role model for him, to be a good guide to him.
7. Artisanal Coffee: Having been through a barista course recently, I have new found respect for this drink. Each cup represents precision and perfection.
