Complements of the Season: Festive Indulgence From The Merry-Makers

  • By Jon-Patric De Mello

A gift from the merry-makers to the merry-masses.

Customary ideas of the festive season often bring visions of hearty home-cooked meals elbow-to-elbow with distant cousins and that aunt you can’t remember the name of. The sentimentality of being around family and friends tints our memories a shade of nostalgia that often overlooks the work put into executing expansive feasts for the extended phonebook of relatives. And yet, we do it, year in and year out. Perhaps, this year we’re due for a change.

Here at Men’s Folio, we’re a proponent of the belief that a little indulgence goes a long way. Especially, when the options for festive feasting are so bountiful and distinctively inspired. Offered to us on a silver platter (literally) from masters of holistic experiences, like One Farrer Hotel and ONE°15 Marina, this festive season is an opportunity to divert from normalcy, and treat yourselves and your loved ones to a novel affair for the tastebuds.

In this regard, Men’s Folio has collated a list of indulgent feasts from 5 merry-makers as a gift to the merry-masses.

One Farrer Hotel Presents: “Delicioso” Mexican-Style Turkey and Local-Inspired Sweet Treats

In a combination unbeknownst to the Singaporean-concept of festivities, One Farrer Hotel has concocted a Christmas menu bridging cultural cuisines from territories far removed. Fronting a Mexican-inspired rendition of the classic Christmas turkey as their feature dish, this South-American iteration is spiced to the nines. Complemented with a traditional Mexican “Mole” sauce that is made by fusing chocolate and spices native to the territory, this brain-child of Executive Chef Marcus Tan has a tangy kick. Their Pastry Chef, Wee Pai Hau’s festive treats offer a sweet finale to this indulgent meal, bringing local tastes to palates with Yule log cakes in flavours of Durian and Bailey Irish.

ONE°15 Marina Presents: “A Starlit Christmas Indulgence”

And in a prime example of how the festive feasting need not be characterized by the toil it necessitates at home, ONE°15 Marina has launched its Christmas takeaway menu as a solution. Fronting a wide-array of classic holiday dishes, its Christmas Holiday Bundle is perhaps the most enticing. Serving 6 – 8 people, it includes a 1/2 roasted turkey, kurobuta porchetta, 14-hour slow-roasted black angus, and a honey-glazed ham. It is of course paired with customary sides, like scalloped potatoes and brussel sprouts and a dark chocolate log bake as the feast’s literal (icing on the) cake. To make matters even more enticing, this lavish meal can be delivered to your doorstep.

Pullman Singapore Hill Street Presents: “Jingle & Mingle: Savour the Season Afternoon Tea”

A festive iteration of the Pullman Singapore Hill Street Afternoon Tea, the Jingle & Mingle boasts a luggage-themed lunch-time celebration in partnership with Dilmah tea to all those who patronize this experience. Each set comes with a curated vintage suitcase paired perfectly in theme with the hotel’s railway-inspired furnishing, and has compartments jam-packed with delectable festive treats and goodies, in both savoury and sweet variations. Each set is coupled with a personalized pot of aromatic Dilmah tea, with the tea blends displayed in a tea collection box. Just as much a feast for the eyes as for the belly, this Afternoon Tea is a must-try experience for the festive season.

Hilton Singapore Orchard, Estate Presents: Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner & Christmas Day Grand Champagne Brunch

It would not be a festive indulgence without including the most indulgent type of meal there is — the Christmas buffet. Hilton Singapore Orchard has assembled a spread fit for the gods for its Christmas Eve and Christmas Day buffets. This smorgasbord includes fresh seafood ranging from Alaskan crabs, Maine lobsters, oysters and king snow crabs, as well as classic festive meat carvings like whole roasted turkey and beef wellington. And in a testament to their commitment of evoking the Christmas spirit, patrons will be treated to live Christmas carols and even a visit from good ole’ Saint Nick (don’t tell the little ones).

Mondrian Singapore Duxton Presents: Season’s Eatings at Bottega Di Carna

Bottomless cocktails and beloved champagne from Dom Pérignon and Veuve Clicquot — what more could you ask for to celebrate this festive season? Perhaps, feasting on meats from the “world’s greatest butcher” Dario Cecchini, will seal the deal for Mondrian Singapore Duxton’s luxuriant weekend brunch and roast. Cecchini’s menu is a celebration of the Italian festive feast, fronting handmade pasta, fired tomahawk steak and grain-fed grilled beef black Angus ribeye among others. Paired beautifully with renowned champagne brands, the whole affair is a grand gastronomic triumph for the Bottega Di Carna and all its guests.
