Charlie Lim And Leonard Soosay Curate a Playlist With the PIEGA Premium Wireless 301
Listening to music on the PIEGA Premium Wireless 301 is auditory bliss, really. Perfect sound quality, a 140 mm MDS low midrange driver that provides a low-ranging bass and a balanced midrange, and an aluminum body that looks like an award-winning Red Dot Design product. It is also coincidentally, the product that Charlie Lim and producer Leonard Soosay used to preview Lim’s latest track “Into Dreams” featuring Ng Pei-Sian, Principal Cellist of the SSO (Singapore Symphony Orchestra).

Here, the duo curate a playlist for one to listen to on his very own PIEGA Premium Wireless 301, now available in Singapore via audio consultancy, Tritone AV.

Charlie’s Track List

Umar’s one of my favourite singers and I can’t wait to hear more music from him. This is his first solo release which I had the privilege of helping produce and engineer vocals for.

Keyana’s such a multi-hyphenate but always grounded and self-aware. The production on this track by Dan from Allure Records is another great testament to the quality and diversity of what’s coming out of Singapore.

Featuring Bani Haykal, this is a hauntingly beautiful track from their sophomore record and dystopian masterpiece Hail Nothing, which I’d highly recommend listening to in its entirety.

I’ve seen Marian grow so much as an artist over the years, and feel so happy and proud of her every time I see her do her thing so confidently and effortlessly.

Another favourite singer-songwriter of mine. It’s not easy to capture Shak’s raw and spontaneous approach when performing live, but this record and its arrangements captures a lot of that electricity and gives a good snapshot of what he does best.

Editor’s note: Charlie is currently working on a project called The Great Wave, a platform that helps to fund artists’ projects, incentivise collaboration, and build a more flexible, sustainable and transparent model for the music industry. For more info, click here

Leonard’s Track List

They are one of my favourite bands of all time, multi talented, brilliant musicians and carrying on the musical legacy of the Bani family.

Composition #4 was never mixed for the album. During the recording process, we wanted to experiment with getting the right sounds and balance, changing microphone placements so that what we heard on record was pure with no processing. The listener with proper speakers will be able to hear the little nuances and the intimacy of the musical performance, like being in the same space as the band.

We were driving to the Lofoten Islands in Norway when we were tasked to create playlists for the long drive. As the sky broke and the rain clouds disappeared, we were greeted by bright sunshine and the most gorgeous scenery, it was also when “conspiracy” came on the car stereo. Listening to Conspiracy now evokes those feelings of wonder and the beauty of nature.

The album will be released in July this year. I just can’t wait to hear how grindcore will translate on the Piega speakers. For now it would be their first single “Behind Closed Doors” from Hiss. Guitars set to 11, Music at 200km/hr, let’s go. I think the Piega’s would perform very well!

This was a one take performance of Jaime in the studio, just acoustic guitars and vocals. Jaime felt very exposed and vulnerable because it wasn’t a very produced track with multi instruments. I suggested she go home and record sounds from her kitchen to add to the track. She placed a microphone outside her kitchen window and recorded for about five minutes.

Listening back attentively, you will hear the sounds of traffic, the elevator doors, birds frolicking, children playing, but what she captured was a moment in time preserved in song, the orchestra of Singapore’s natural sounds. Until this day, it still remains to be her highest streamed song on Spotify.

I think this is one of the best songs ever written by a Singaporean. The Lyrics, arrangement and production are all top notch and somehow it has this “Carpenters” nostalgia vibe that Linying is able to pull off easily. She is an old soul existing in the 21st century. “Let me know if you’re receiving, a message in this mess as much as me, God behind my carelessness and Heaven in the ways that you see me.” I can put this on repeat the whole day.
