It is not every day one comes across a brand celebrating its bicentennial. 10 Great Pyramids of Giza could have been built back to back in 200 years, while the city of Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia remains in construction 140 years after its cornerstone was first laid in 1882 if the duration were put into perspective.Reaching the two-century milestone is a feat unto itself, but the grand dame of whisky — The Macallan — has achieved it with excellence and consistency since the day it was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid.
Age is just a number as The Macallan kicks off its 200 Years Young year-long celebrations. The first chapter begins with “A Journey Through Time” — a timeless journey honouring their rich past, embracing the vibrant present and guiding the future — with The Macallan Double Cask range being the protagonist. As a tribute to The Macallan’s illustrious history and promising future, the whisky maker has collaborated with esteemed bars across Singapore for an experience unlike any other.

There certainly will be more whisky than champagne on ice ready for this experience as The Macallan is doing so with a trio of reimagined signature serves: The Old Fashioned, Rob Roy, and The Boulevardier crafted into a flight of cocktails anchored by The Macallan Double Cask range. These enduring classics in the world of mixology — met with the bartenders’ creativity, nuance and meticulousness — bring out the best of the spirits crafted in American and European sherry-seasoned oak casks. Various esteemed bars will showcase unique cocktails, drawing inspiration from the River Spey and the botanicals of The Macallan Estate, and reinterpreted and expertly crafted by their bartenders.
Of the three cocktails, none embodies The Macallan more than the Old Fashioned. Regarded as one of the first widely known cocktails ever, the Old Fashioned is a classic whisky cocktail crafted with bitters, simple syrup and fruit. Despite the simple recipe, it reflects the simplicity, elegance and timeless allure ofThe Macallan, and is available at HighHouse, MO Bar, 28 HongKong Street and White Shades. Given The Macallan’s Scottish roots, having a cocktail, the Rob Roy — named after a Scottish folk hero — seems apt.Its recipe makeup is essentially the same as that of Manhattan, with the exception of using Scotch whisky instead of rye cask whisky. The sophisticated interpretations served at The Macallan House and Night Hawk salute The Macallan’s dedication to quality and exceptional whisky craftsmanship. Rounding off the trio is The Boulevardier — an elegant, refined and innovative Manhattan-and-Negroni crossover. The Punch Room and EDITIONS hotel pays homage to classic and familiar flavours while embracing contemporary twists.
