Technically speaking, and based on the fashion calendar (you know, the almanack that has been dictating our line of work and what pops up on the shop floors), we’re in the fall season, folks. But it’s also our imperative to let you know that fall candles always smell a bit odd — what Gingy from Shrek might smell like if he’s melted down, the holy grail drink of the basics (it starts with a P, has an S in the middle and an L for its last world), or things that don’t work in our weather.

So here, the best summer candles that’ll magically work in every room you place them in. Light, tropical-apropos and strangely, pieces of art when you’re done with the last micro-inch of its wick.

Pictured Above: The Diptyque Citrouille candle might be classified as an autumnal fragrance but if you have the pleasure of experiencing it in the flesh, it takes the classic tropes of the fruit (blending it with spicy ingredients or making it smell syrupy) and makes it sweet and creamy. There is a strong green note however near half the candle’s life that makes it absolutely delicious.

If you’ve had the pleasure of spending a sexy summer night in Paris, then Celine Nightclubbing is one of the best summer candles to enjoy: sweet galbanum, heady vanilla and a sensuous musk accord. If you haven’t, you can burn this particular candle before closing your eyes and fantasising about it.

Cire Trudon’s Gabriel is one of the summer candles here that presents a different kind of vibe: masculine leather, oak-like cashmere wood, and earthy chestnuts. Sort of hygge, sort of warm, very very very lumberjack out cutting wood.

Dior Toile’s de Jouy candle comes in three scent profiles — Gris Dior, Lucky and Holy Peony — but the latter is one of the most beautiful smelling and looking summer candles. A powdery rose with sweet Lily of the Valley and sparkling notes of berries livens up the room it’s burned in and continues to do so when used as a receptacle for tchotchkes once you’re done with it.

Burnt at night, the Jo Malone Lavender & Moonflower scented candle relaxes one with aromatic English lavender and soft white musk. Burnt in the day if you’re feeling transgressive, the warmth and calming accord of moonflowers are guaranteed to lower your heart rate down to a restful 60bPM.

Translated to Burst of Joy, the Valeur Absolue Parfums Joie-Eclat candle is a summer aperitif in a beautiful glass container: crisp citrus, sweet jasmine, and spicy cardamom. True to its moniker, the scent too is specifically developed to make you happy and thankfully, its affordable price as decided by its marketing department too endeavoured to do the same.
