It is official. John Galliano will take on Maison Martin Margiela as the brand’s new Creative Director.
The appointment will begin a new chapter for the Parisian label as the house has been without a creative director since its namesake founder left in 2009.
“Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul,” said Renzo Rosso, president of OTB, the group that owns Margiela. “John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time — a unique, exceptional couturier for a maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create, and wish him to here find his new home.”
The engagement marks the end of Galliano’s three-year hiatus and recommencement of his signature style influence. Set to oversee all of Margiela’s lines, including couture and men’s ready-to-wear, Galliano will make his first debut at the Paris Couture Week in January next year.
