Frankly, the Men’s Folio Grooming Awards 2022 has not changed much since its inauguration in 2020. Its metrics are still yardsticks that have not shrunk in length — does a product feel and work as they claim to do besides looking good on the table? If we are to play spot the difference, then there are smarter upgrades to the daily staples we use such as serums for the eyes, a greater focus on makeup removal, hydration, and many new solutions to scent oneself.
There are, of course, even more choices this year — roughly 528 nominations were made across 80 brands. We narrowed it down to 286 products from 68 brands, of which were tested by this panel of eight — Managing Editor Asaph Low, Deputy Editor Bryan Goh, Makeup Artists Eric Tan, Larry Yeo, Priscelia Wong, Sha Shamsi, and grooming enthusiasts Smita de Souza and Aiman Haikal — resulting in 68 winners that were deeply vetted, tested, and of course, loved.
From top to bottom, the best cleansers from our 2022 Grooming Awards:
BEST OIL CONTROL CLEANSER — Belif Manology Ultimate Cleansing Foam
With a refreshing citrusy scent, Asaph appreciates that “it’s of a thicker consistency than more foam cleansers while leaving his skin smoother without any dryness.”
BEST SENSITIVE SKIN CLEANSER — Fresh Soy Face Cleanser
Asaph notes that the cleanser is “very, very gentle on the skin as it does not foam heavily but yet, feels luxurious and silky on the skin with no discernible scent which is good.”
BEST MICELLAR WATER CLEANSER — Clé de Peau Beauté Micellar Cleansing Water
The low pH micellar water cleanser “removes effectively without any stinging on the skin” says Sha. She adds, “it leaves the skin very clean and soothed with no signs of irritation.”
BEST CLEANSING BALM — Glow Recipe Papaya Sorbet Enzyme Cleansing Balm
Smita says that “it works well enough to remove makeup and your skin does look a tad brighter after rinsing it off.” She also appreciates that she can skip exfoliation post-use.
BEST CHEMICAL EXFOLIATING TREATMENT — Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta® Extra Strength Daily Peel
With just two simple steps (a pad that chemically exfoliates with seven acids and the other that nourishes and balances), this product is Larry’s “favourite go-to once every four days.”
BEST HYDRATING CLEANSER — Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Gel Cleanser
Priscelia notes that this cleanser is “not drying at all despite being partly a foaming wash” but most importantly, that it also “removes makeup residue like a dream.”
BEST OIL CLEANSER — Shu Uemura Ultime8∞ Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil
Aiman appreciates the nutritive and softening properties of this cleansing oil and also, “how it melts makeup off like its butter without leaving the skin feeling itchy or dry.”
BEST PHYSICAL EXFOLIATING TREATMENTTM — Origins Ginzing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser
This two-in-one scrub meets cleanser is very much adored by Aiman who says that “it has given life to his skin because it appears smoother and more lively with just one use.”
