The 2022 Edition Of the European Film Festival Focuses on Diversity, Inclusivity and Solidarity For the European Film Festival this year, the focus is not just on European films (of which there are 24 from 23 countries) but also, includes youth. For all of the next generation’s ingenuity and idiosyncrasies, the EUFF aims to deepen its collaboration with young Singapore filmmakers who includes the likes of film students from three schools: Lasalle College of the Arts, Puttnam School of Film and Animation, Nanyang Technological University’s School of Art, Design and Media, and Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Film & Media Studies.

Says Iwona Piórko, European Union Ambassador to Singapore: “Cinema reminds us of our humanity and demonstrates to us how our lives are interconnected. We present this year’s EUFF in a difficult time. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine by opening the festival with the multiple award-winning Ukrainian films, Mother of Apostles. This movie, like several others on our programme, celebrates universal values of peace, freedom, and human dignity.”

The films of the countries — Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and Ukraine — for the European Film Festival have not just had success in their country of origin and internationally, but instead, proves that the power of cinema is its ability to translate human emotions and narratives into reel life.

Films in the drama genre include Belgium’s All of Us, Denmark’s Erna at War, Finland’s The Blind Man Who Did Not Want To See Titanic, Greece’s The Last Note, Hungary’s Aurora Borealis, Luxembourg’s The Restless, The Netherlands’ My Father is an Airplane, Norway’s Psychobitch, Poland’s Never Gonna Snow Again, Spain’s That Was Life, Switzerland’s Atlas and Ukraine’s Mother of Apostles.

For historical drama, Estonia has Truth and Justice, and France, the featured country will close with Lost Illusions.

If one just wants a laugh, the European Film Festival presents Austria’s Double Happiness, Czechia’s On The Roof, Germany’s I’m Your Man, Ireland’s Dating Amber, Portugal’s Mother Knows Best, and Turkey’s A Unique Life. Romania’s Wild Romania and Sweden’s The Choir are the two documentaries in the festival program, while Ukraine’s Hutsulka Ksenya is a musical and Italy’s Freaks Out, a fantasy film.
