The Grooming Editor Approved Products of September 2021
What happens when you sit a horde of beauty and grooming editors band together in times of yore and merriment? Firstly, we have the inhuman physical capacity to drink a lot. Secondly, we can gush all night about beauty or grooming editor-approved products; the kind of products that we’ve received and really love. In more extreme cases, they are the kind on our list of products we don’t mind being marooned on an island with.

While every week brings about different drops (kind of like cryptocurrency), here, seven of the month’s which I feel are as relevant to what a man needs today as they are practical in packaging and price.

Pictured Above: The 60th birthday of the French fragrance House goes on a tour and specifically, made a pit stop in Tokyo with the Kyoto EDT available at Escentials. If you’re expecting another generic rose fragrance, Kyoto is incredibly vibrant in a green way. One of the grooming editor approved products that opens with a blast of green (it’s from the beetroot apparently) before warming down to an earthy incense note and peppery notes of jalapeño pepper. On skins which are more alkalic, it takes on a more sweet jam like accord so I highly recommend testing it before purchase.

Frankly, when Foreo mentioned that their ISSA 3 was mint green, I was super excited because you rarely see electronic toothbrushes of such colours. Fyi, it’s more of a teal blue. But does it really cleanse really effectively around your tongue, cheek, teeth and gums? Of course. Is it super soft on them? I would know, I tried brushing with brute force to no bleeding or welling. Does it really last for 365 uses with just one charge? Fantastically. My Art Director is a fan too as it “cuts the time spent brushing by least 50%”.

When I first received the Kiehl’s Retinol Skin-Renewing Daily Micro-Dose Serum, I was already six weeks into an acnotin regime. Not sure what compelled me to add a retinol into my regime (a complete lack of self-preservation perhaps) but this formula is so gentle that I could use it once every three days. Sure, I experienced more refined pores and the lightening of blemishes but its addition of peptides and ceramides meant that I never experienced any sensitisation. And that, is a retinol product at its smartest.

What is perhaps so interesting about Le Labo Cedrat 37 would be that its sweet ginger lemonade layered on top of the usual Le Labo DNA, a warm musk and woodsiness that is apparent in most of their fragrances. Some might not enjoy its citrus-like nature that is linear throughout the entirety of the fragrance’s “lifespan” but they can’t deny its projection power. Expect a radius of Cedrat 37 for at least seven hours.

Sometimes, you might experience radiating heat when you put your hand above your scalp (…no? Just me?) — that is your scalp warming up which leads to things like irritation, hair loss and flaking. Think of it like the skin on one’s face, you want it to be cooled down and calmed instead of hot and angry. One spritz of the Ryo Scalp Cooling Tonic immediately replenishes your scalp with moisture and provides a tingling effect so you know it’s working.

The Sulwhasoo Essential Firming Cream works quickly because it addresses the “firming net” of the skin. Think of it like a net that tightens your skin the more you show some love to it or loosens if you’re doing it wrong. The addition of an oriental medicinal complex of goji berries, black beans and arrowroot means that it might smells a little too funky for some but get over it, this cream shows results on your contours within four to five uses.

Strangely, one of the hardest products for grooming editors to find is a foaming cleanser because there are so many requirements for it. It has to foam somewhat but contains no sulfates but it also has to be able to be used as a shaving foam without leaving traces of it post-wash. If we want to be even more annoying, it should not have a smell too. Basically, we’re talking about the su:m37° Dear Homme Perfect Cleansing Foam which does it all.
