The Grooming Editor Approved Products of August 2021

  • By Bryan Goh

What happens when you sit a horde of beauty and grooming editors band together in non-socially distance times? Firstly, we have the inhuman physical capacity to drink a lot. Secondly, we can gush all night about beauty or grooming editor-approved products; the kind of products that we’ve received and really love. In more extreme cases, they are the kind on our list of products we don’t mind being marooned on an island with.

While every week brings about different drops (kind of like cryptocurrency), here, seven of the month’s which I feel are as relevant to what a man needs today as they are practical in packaging and price.

Pictured Above: Interestingly, no matter what range from Kiehl’s you buy a product from, it will always be hydrating. The Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Serum Concentrate is no different — glycerin that hydrates while temporarily smoothing out fine lines and an epidermal hydration filler that improves elasticity over time. What is more interesting would be that your skin visibly plumps up if you’re not used to products that hydrate more heavily.

Firstly, the Act+Acre Restorative Hair Mask comes packaged with a winch to break its seal so do not throw it away. Secondly, unlike other hair masks in the market, this one does not weigh your hair down post use. Instead, enjoy your new fluffy hair courtesy of glycerin and pressed castor oil. For those who enjoy a textured look, this mask does not condition so intensely that you lose that look. I expect it to work even better on coloured hair too.

Finally, the Chanel Sublimage line has a version for the body called the La Crème Corps et Décolleté that is equally as good as its cousins. For the fans of the line, it still moisturises and calms instantly while giving your skin a “ring light” glow. For the new comers, it might feel a little too rich hence I recommend scooping some into your palm before spraying thermal water on it to “dilute” it for easier application. Fun fact: it heals fresh tattoos very quickly too.

One of the best grooming editor approved products (going by what my fellow editors have been ‘gramming) is the Filorga NCEF-Shot Supreme Polyrevitalising Concentrate, a lightweight serum that I’d recommend for anyone who doesn’t sleep much. It gives a glow to your skin while lightening the look of “shadows”, an effect that will be permanent if you use it for two weeks. Interestingly, it even “lessened” the look of wrinkling around my neck faster than those on my face.

The KP in the KP Body Bump Eraser refers to kerotosis pilaris which is basically a condition where your skin has dry, rough patches and tiny pumps — sort of like chicken pox. But one of the best body product has become a grooming editor approved because it works with just one use. It even works to soften hairs pre-shave if you’re shaving anywhere other than your face. But fyi, there’s a 10% acid complex in it so you might want to step up and use a body sunscreen.

Apparently, your scalp gets heated up like your skin too which leads to the over production of sebum and hair fall. If you’re a blow drying addict, that makes it worse too. Hence, the Ryo Scalp Cooling Tonic should be used pre-blow dry and post-blow dry to reduce irritation, flakiness and “heatiness”. It even sprays the product out with just the right amount. If you go overboard, thankfully, it doesn’t feel sticky. Just brush it from root to tips and blow dry on cool.

The Sisley Paris L’Integral Anti-Age Radiance Anti-Dark Spot Serum might cost as much as an omakase meal with sake pairing but god damn, it is effective. It immediately fades small spots within two days (fresh ones take a week), gives an immediate glow and visibly lifts the face too. I won’t recommend it for the Gen Z-ers but for anybody who is 24 and above, now is the time to start using something more potent.
