Dru Chen's EP Titled "Our Story" is Here to Give You Feels
The face of a baby (drop the skincare routine, king), the voice of a man (think thick maple syrup drizzled on a vintage oak table) and the stylistics nuances of his fellow musicians like Gentle Bones and DEON — Dru Chen’s EP is called “Our Story”, four tracks made to liberate us from the pressures of our own mind.

It’s this sort of vulnerability — Tell me all the ways to your heart, meet me baby back at the start — that makes Dru Chen the everyday man of music. While “Mirror Work” (an ode to 1970s funk) and “When I Look Into Your Eyes” (an ode to 1960s blues) gave us a perspective into his influences, “Our Story” is perhaps the clearest cut idea of the music he is able to produce. A quiet kind of joy like a familiar friend, the unconditional love you receive from people and if you have 10 minutes of your time today, stream it and have a listen.

The truth will set you free.

A psychological indie-pop song dealing with the many sides of people and the yearning for acceptance that we all seek. We can’t make sense of our breakdowns, but we can slow it down and let it ride and come back to ourselves.

“When the people have gone and left the party and you’re all alone once again, how do you cope with the emptiness? This song was my way of dealing with that feeling — that existential dread. It felt like therapy writing this song.”

Anything worth doing is going to take hard work. Braving the journey with someone is no exception. This R&B song, sung gently in Dru’s signature falsetto, represents a lifetime of affection, care, and devotion.

“Affection. Pure care, devotion, and affection. I sang this one in a falsetto to signify that. I hope this song goes easy on the mind, and gentle on the ears — for anyone who needs it. I wanted to write something that felt like an aural massage.”
