What makes some of these local or global creatives tick? In this weekly column, singer Kevin Brendan shares his favourite things.
Pictured Above: 1.Photoshoots: This is a still from a shoot I did with local creative, Josslin Yeo. The shoot played with childhood treats like the apollo wafers, yakult or even the little balloons that you blow with a tiny straw.
The shoot always reminds me of how easily happy we once were and how important it is to allow ourselves a little bit of joy from time to time.

2. Flowers: Flowers always remind me of how fragile and fleeting life can be — insanely beautiful but they are never forever. Mary Lennox’s work is truly an obsession of mine, using flowers to bring out the glory in spaces or garments to allow you to see how truly brilliant some things can be.

3. Olex Oleole: Olex Oleole is an artist I discovered back when I was doing art in secondary school. This was truly surreal to me and made me feel like I wasn’t the only weirdo in the world.
This piece by Olex Oleole oddly allowed a sense of comfort despite its eerie disposition.

4. SZA: SZA has been a huge source of inspiration for me with my music. Embracing her life and her roots and making sense of the complexities of life through music is an art I 100% subscribe to.

5. Fenty Beauty Eaze Drops: As a performing artist, I’ve had plenty of experiences with hair and makeup along with makeup artists who just don’t have the products for people of deeper skin tones.
The Fenty Beauty Eaze Drops are an absolute fave for me not only because of the shade range but because of how it feels like I’m wearing an Instagram filter on my face all day.
Also, yes to men wearing makeup to live their best lives.

6. Jacquemus: You can bet your ass that you’ll see me in these colours from the Jacquemus Fall 2021 this year. Jacquemus has always resonated with me, from the nods to nostalgia and childhood to the straight-up disregard for what everyone else is doing.
I’m obsessed with this entire collection.

7. Mimi, the Jack Russell: My forever obsession will be my baby girl Mimi, the Jack Russell. A reminder to myself of unconditional love and straight up excitement for yummy snacks.
Fun fact, I’ve got a tattoo of her somewhere on my body.

8. Vintage Indian ads: It’s no wonder why vintage Indian ads have been inspiring me. Unapologetically Indian, these ads make full use of quintessential Indian glamour with unique jewellery.
Growing up with an identity crisis has led to my obsession with Indian glamour.
