The Fendi Spring Summer 2022 Men's Show Was All About Body Escapism
It’s literally cool to be a Fendi man this season and not just because Silvia Venturini Fendi has the chops to pump out stellar accessories (this season, it’s a belly chain with a mini Baguette bag) or the fact that once again, she has different propositions for the people. For the Fendi Spring Summer 2022 men’s show, she wants to free up two parts of our bodies that we don’t often consider — the middriff and the legs.

While the thought of baring so much might seem a little outré in our little red dot, it’s time to consider the appeal of showing some skin. A pair of shorts that grazes the kneecaps can read a little too dad-core (“howdy kids, how ya’ll doin’ ?”) and one does not need the body of Hulk Hogan either to don a crop top, all he needs to do is to look beyond the windows of the abs-alfresco and consider a length that suits him.

“Our singular point of view in this period has modified our perception of the world — and mine has become so linked to what I see from the arches and the rooftop of our building. It is almost like a bird’s eye view of Rome from here. The colours and the perspective are always changing — the soft palette of the Roman sky across the day is so beautiful and I wanted it to be a focal point of this collection.”.

The collection centres around the duality of the Roman man — a momma’s boy in the streets but a devil in the sheets – but the Fendi Spring Summer 2022 feels quite grounded in reality. Summer suiting come with pen pockets and earpods compartments while mock neck pullovers and tees in crochet mink scoop up in the front, exposing utility belts strung with FENDI loop charms. The iconic Peekaboo bag appears in a matte water-and-scratch resistant nylon while the Baguette returns as a roomy messenger, calling to be filled up to its seams.

While we have whittled down our favourite looks to the 10 below, we highly recommend clicking play on the video above. The runway show was shot at the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana where the Fendi HQ is located and if one is in the know, he’d be in for a visual treat. After all, Fendi herself moonlights as a producer on big-budget movies.

Look 1:
Fendi’s take on hot shorts (FYI: they graze mid-thigh) come with pockets that sit low on the hem which is suggesting for a day on the beach with a pocket full of sea shells.

Look 8:
Another visual cue that lilac purple is going to be big next season albeit this time, on Summer’s softest suiting.

Look 10:
From Rome to the Amalfi coast, a nubby cardigan and shearling lined slippers for chilly nights. And most importantly, a Baguette sunglass case for the day.

Look 14:
A crop shirt to consider for the next season, it’s time to show a sliver of the skin you’ve been working on all season.

Look 16:
For the Fendi Spring Summer 2022 men’s collection, the messaging is clear — the Fendi man this season has walked off the set of a Roberto Benigni film.

Look 19:
From the shore of the Amalfi Coast to the cobbled streets of Venice, the Fendi man softly suits up with everything he needs in his pockets.

Look 20:
A possible trend from the Fendi Spring Summer 2022 men’s show that’ll carry into the season — surf-core. You heard it here first.

Look 25:
The camouflage motif from the Fendi Spring Summer 2022 men’s show is a nod to Rome’s far horizons with its hidden historical gems and artistic allure.

Look 31:
Another surf-core look from the collection that’s as appropriate from the Cote D’azur to Bondi Beach and even Tanjong Beach Club.

Look 32:
The Fendi man walks this season without a care in the world, the bronzed skin is highly optional though.

Look 38:
Another nod to the horizons of Rome albeit this time, on a coat. We’d like to call it a trans-seasonal piece, one to have and to love all-year round.

Look 40:
The best play on proportion at the Fendi Spring Summer 2022 men’s show, an oversized knit that balances out the skimpiness of gauzy shorts.
