MFMF85: Art Director Izwan Abdullah’s “Eccentricities” Playlist

  • By Men's Folio

Eyeliner as dark as coal, skinny jeans that were so tight they were cutting off my circulation and ridiculous hair that was always in my eyes – that was me in my emo days.

My playlists were filled with songs full of heartbreak, teen angst and a bit of a rebellious spirit, and I’ll be damned if I didn’t at least use lyrics from a few of the songs on my Tumblr or dramatic breakup texts.

So, join me as I look back on my tear-filled days as an emo kid. There are songs of all sorts on the journey, and there may be some that surprise you too. And, you know what? If you disagree with me, I don’t care.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – Your Guardian Angel

Oh, the joys and pain of unrequited love. Yes, imagine crying and getting your eyeliner all ruined. To this day, this song still remains a mainstay for me.

Mayday Parade – Miserable At Best

The pinnacle of my emo days are certainly encompassed by Mayday Parade.

Panic! At The Disco – I Write Sins Not Tragedies

The first time I heard this song, I wasn’t too sure what I could make out of it. Was he saying poise and rationality or poisoned rationality? Deep.

My Chemical Romance – I’m Not Okay (I Promise)

I can’t deny that I definitely spent some time in bed, whining about who knows what, while singing “I’m not okay / Well, I’m not okay”, Didn’t we all?
