The Sexual Side of Feng Shui According to Thierry Chow We-Vibe
It’s not every day that you get a pitch about how sex toys can bring positive energy into your home. Then again, we’ve covered things like giving yourself the big O in a pandemic or how to not be an asshole when it comes to one night stands. In fact, this sexual side of Feng Shui might not even cause you to bat an eyelid (we know we didn’t).

Here, Thierry Chow, a feng shui interior designer from Hong Kong talks her collaboration with adult toy brand We-Vibe and you’d be surprised how having one in your home brings good vibes. And that our friends, is the sexual side of Feng Shui we can really get behind.

Ok firstly, we have to ask… what is going on? How did you feel when We-Vibe first pitched this to you?
I felt quite interested as I’m all about breaking taboos and stigmas. One of the first connection points I found between feng shui and self-pleasure is the fact that the latter is directly not talked about often, therefore many misconceptions exist about masturbation and self-love. On the other hand, nowadays we often hear that feng shui is a superstitious thing, which ignores how this part of our culture has helped us live happier and more fulfilled lives throughout thousands of years.

When you look at We-Vibe toys, actually they’re designed in a very lifestyle way, their designs are very shame-free. I thought this brand would give me a good opportunity to speak up and break taboos — demonstrate how loving yourself is part of feng shui. If I can spark a conversation about these two topics, I will help develop positively the perception of these two concepts in Asian countries.

For those who can’t wrap their heads around the sexual side of feng shui, do adult toys lean more yin or yang?
It really depends, the act of using sex toys can lean towards yang energy if it brings positivity into your life. Emotions such as hope, joy, happiness, kindness are more yang energy as well.

What happens when we use an adult toy? Is there some kind of energy generation or does it affect our chi?
It’s not a unidirectional concept. It’s an internal-external energy exchange. Feng shui explores how external objects — things that we own or have at home — have an effect in our internal energy. Sex toys are a feng shui friendly object. The idea is that an external object — in this case a We-Vibe Sex Toy — improves our internal energy through the connection it provides to our mind and body as well as the mental health benefits that self-pleasure provides, and therefore our sense of well-being.

In the tips from the campaign video, apart from rating the feng shui value of the external qualities in We-Vibe products such as primary colours and organic shapes, and the bagua, to explain the directions of where We-Vibe toys can be used to create the best energies.

What about the colours then? Is a red toy more yang? What about the shapes?
The colours can determine if it is more yin or yang as well, brighter colours are also generally more yang. Red is definitely a very yang colour. Darker and cool colours are more yin.

These are how the elements is connected to different colours:
Fire: red, pink, orange or purple.
Wood: green, light green.
Earth: brown, grey or yellow.
Metal: white, silver or gold.
Water: blue, black.

With shapes, round or wavy designs are more complimentary to the metal and water element while sharper and square shape are more fire, earth or wood element based.

How does the bagua come into play? Are you able to make it simpler for our readers to understand?
So the bagua, or the “energy map” is used by all feng shui masters, to explain which “directions” or places in our homes are auspicious for certain parts of our lives. In the bagua, there is a direction for relationship. Therefore, we can argue that placing, using, or owning We-Vibe sex toys in that direction of our home can generate positive feng shui energy as the nature of this objects can increase the relationship we have with ourselves as well as with others.

The bagua is one more way of explaining in practical terms how sex toys are indeed related to feng shui through that relationship direction. They can foster energy exchange, love and intimacy.

We know that adult toys are specifically reserved for the bedroom but are We-Vibe toys able to be placed for maximum fengshui results in other spots of the house?
Yes! There’s a big misconception from a sexual wellness perspective that adult toys are only to be used in the bedroom. The beautiful design of toys nowadays make them appropriate to place or own, or even use in different parts of our house.

Spicing things up is always good in relationships. Some sex toys are even wearable and can be worn and used outside of the house through a remote control or app, such as We-Vibe Jive, or We-Vibe Moxie!

If we want to keep them indoors, we can look again at colours and directions to understand which places in our home can bring a higher level of auspiciousness. The short answer is yes, the long answer is:

  1. Wood in feng shui is related to growth, healing, and vitality. It is represented with colours like green, blue and teal. Adding a We-Vibe Touch X in Green Velvet to your bedside table or bedroom furniture will boost shared growth for you and your partner. Touch X is a magical multitasker: a waterproof vibrator designed to fit and stimulate every part of the human body. The east location in your home is dedicated to personal development and social luck, the best spot of your house to use Touch X and explore personal growth.
  2. Fire in feng shui represents passion, inspiration and visibility. It is often related to red and bright orange. In that sense, Tango X in Cherry Red will auspiciously invigorate sexual desire. Have it (or use it!) in your kitchen, a fiery place of your home, to further boost its energy. Tango X is a well-known bullet vibrator with serene, deep, and rumbly vibrations that will hit one’s sweet spot with ease and power. Use it in the northeast direction of your home, as feng shui says star no. 9 in 2021 represents romance. Using a toy with the colour of passion there will boost romance this year!
  3. Water represents wisdom, as well as the emotional connection to others and the world around us, symbolising better energy flow. It is connected with wavy shapes, which brings the best of We-Vibe’s Chorus in Blue. This 100% waterproof and most famous toy by We-Vibe is worn during intercourse so that both partners can enjoy rumbly feelings at the same time. Its Squeezable Remote designed with the most natural human response in mind – the tighter you squeeze, the stronger the vibration gets.
  4. Last but not least, if you’re looking for stronger alternatives to activate the romantic boost of the north-east corner of your space, We-Vibe Nova 2 in Purple can provide the ultimate pleasure journey, either solo or shared, through its adjustable G-spot and external stimulator, let its purple provide a calm but still romantic energy to your life.
