Sweet Relief — Why the Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts are A Sanctuary for The Senses

  • By Men's Folio

Providing shelter to weary travellers, Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts brands itself as a symbol of natural relief and comfort, offering attentive yet discreet service by associates from over 50 nationalities for a naturally-luxurious, ecological and culturally sensitive experience.

Established in 1990, the Banyan Tree initiative began on the vast expanse of coastal Phuket in Thailand. Punctuated by lagoons of the most intense cobalt blue, the brand dedicated itself to reversing the effects of pollution through cleansing the acid-laden soil with over 7,000 trees.

Hilltop Spa.

Continually transforming ecological wastelands into environmentally sensitive tourist hotspots, Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts have since grown into one of the world’s leading international operators in the hospitality and spa industry – managing more than 48 resorts and hotels, 64 spas, 74 retail galleries and three championship golf courses in 28 countries.

Oceanview Infinity Pool Villa.

With a variety of sites across China, India, Thailand, Korea, Laos, the Maldives, Mexico, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia, amongst many others – the Banyan Tree residences in Bintan pride themselves in offering the highest caliber of all-pool, all-villa island accommodation.

Balanced on stilts, each villa is situated on a hilly slope within the natural rainforest, and modelled after traditional Indonesian thatched huts. Featuring uninterrupted views of the South China Sea from the privacy of each residence’s relaxation or infinity pool, the resort promises signature services in the form of a 24-hour personal concierge, private pick-up upon arrival, convenient and efficient check-in-and-out services, dining reservations, spa appointments, and activity arrangements.

“At every Banyan Tree resort across the world, the aim is to provide our guests with a Sanctuary for the senses, and deliver experiences that are naturally luxurious, ecological and culturally sensitive. In addition, sustainability has been Banyan Tree’s ethos since the company was founded, and it continues to be our guiding principle.” – Mr Alpha Eldiansyah, Resort General Manager, Banyan Tree Bintan.

Kelong Villa.

Facing the beach, Banyan Tree Bintan offers a multitude of booking-options suitable for every occasion. With Rainforest Seaview Villas, Rainforest Oceanfront Villas, Ocean Villa On The Rocks with outdoor Jacuzzis, and 2-Bedroom Oceanview Villas with outdoor infinity pools, the resort was pleased to unveil an all-new Kelong Villa, just last year.

Built and named in honour of the enormous wooden offshore stilts used by Southeast Asian fishermen, the Kelong Villa is the resort’s first-ever floating accommodation, designed to reconnect guests with nature through an eco-friendly, sustainable means of experiencing the island.

Offering panoramic, open-air views of the South China Sea, guests are treated to the same personalised and meticulous selection of items offered in other residences, including His and Hers vanity sinks, amenity wash bags, embroidered towels, themed oil lamps and the necessary matches to light them, plus Wi-Fi. Despite the elimination of air-conditioning and television, the Kelong Villa is stocked with board games, books, kayaks, fishing rods and snorkelling equipment, offering an ideal alternative for guests looking to disconnect from the modern world.
