#SwatchxBAPE Tour the World in Tokyo

  • By Yong Wei Jian

Last Friday, Swatch and BAPE took Men’s Folio and invited guests from around the world on a whirlwind tour around the hippest neighbourhoods in Tokyo to mark the launch of their new BIG BOLD watch collaboration.

Starting at the foot of Roppongi Hills, the designs inspired by Tokyo and Swiss were first unveiled to represent the home countries of both brands. Branded buses then shuttled guests to different locations: London was a museum exhibiting BAPE bling, Paris brought out burlesque dancers, and NYC was at popular pizza joint PIZZA SLICE 2 complete with graffiti art by Stash. The tour culminated at Tokyo’s exclusive 1OAK night club, featuring the final World edition and live performances by Japanese artists Yuki, Kawanabe Hiroshi and 5lack.

The Swatch x BAPE BIG BOLD watches all feature the street label’s camouflage signature, with the Swiss and London editions gaining additional depth with the Merle Carte projection. The city-specific models are limited to 1,993 pieces each to reflect BAPE’s origin year (the Swiss edition is limited to 983 pieces to reflect Swatch’s 1983 beginnings), while the global edition is available in higher numbers.

The SG drop is set for 15 June at the Swatch store in Orchard Gateway; the World edition will also be available at Marina Bay Sands and online.
