As Kris Van Assche uplifts his rave-inspired HarDior theme for Spring 2018 with touches of colour and relaxed pairings (sharp tailoring is broken up with sports separates), the season’s formal Black Carpet collection manifests his newfound optimism in a more subdued manner.
Besides the inclusion of tail coat and sculpted cummerbund, there’s an exquisite blooming across sharp jackets: a confetti of appliqué leather sequins, clustered bugle beads, bee embroideries across the breast and collar.
Monsieur Dior’s favourite lily-of-the-valley flower even re-emerges as a matt black brooch or all-over decoration. The delicate detailing is exuberant while maintaining the dark inflection of HarDior, resulting in sophisticated formality.
