The Heavy Duty Effect Of These Lightweight Powder Foundations

  • By Bryan Goh

For the past few months when I’ve been on set at a photoshoot, I’ve noticed that makeup artists have been using powder foundations more than ever; particularly, ones that call “lightweight”. It might seem like an oxymoron for them to say so, considering that said product has always been associated with dryness and its unkindness to fine lines, but with these recent launches comes a new look to them.

Firstly, most of them can be beautifully buffed into the skin when used with a brush for a barely-there finish that doesn’t feel heavy on the skin and secondly, their heavy-duty wear can last for hours and hours provided you got great things going on below it (aka properly hydrated skin). Thirdly, the compacts they come in look great. Superficial, yes, but after all, it is a product you have to use on the daily.

Here, seven of the best lightweight powder foundations to blur, conceal, and in some cases, protect.

Pictured Above: The Make Up For Ever HD Skin Powder Foundation feels weightless on the skin and provides full coverage that can last up to 24 hours. It even blurs the look of pores and textures.

The Bobbi Brown Skin Weightless Powder Foundation feels like nothing as its name suggests but its coverage is surprisingly high with the way it completely covers darker scarring. Its soft, creamy texture means you’re in full control of how and where you want to use it.

When you look at a Dior Men’s runway show and think that a model looks great, there is a high chance that makeup maestro Peter Phillips is using the Dior Forever Natural Velvet Compact Foundation: one of the best lightweight powder foundations that give a medium coverage which looks fresh even during the most humid of days.

The mat naturel referenced in Gucci’s Poudre De Beauté Mat Naturel Beauty Powder is a reference to its finish (matte and natural obviously but emollient agents prevent dryness) and while the brand considers it more of a pressed powder, it has buildable coverage from light to medium for those who want something lighter.

The Guerlain Parure Gold Radiance Powder Foundation is one of the best lightweight ones because of how it works for different skin types: mature skin will appreciate its plumping effect (the powder has a collagen and elastin booster), oily skin types will appreciate its oil control properties that doesn’t cake in corners, and dryer skin will smoothen out thanks to its finish that never dries chalky.

Besides evening the skin or concealing imperfections depending on the coverage wanted, the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder is one of the best lightweight powder foundations for humidity.
