Rangga Jones And Shye Are More Than Alright As 2OFU

Rangga Jones and Shye come together as 2OFU to release their debut single “We’ll Be Alright”, the first of a three-track EP coming out later this month.

For these two locally-based independent pop acts, 2OFU (pronounced “tofu”) represents a new platform for them to tap into the next generation’s dreams and ideasthe next generation’s dreams and ideas in a familiar way; just like tofu, they are undeniably Asian and a familiar comfort that makes even the hardest-hitting feelings feel a little bit softer.

With Rangga Jones’ comforting artistry and Shye’s warm bedroom pop sound, this meeting of zesty energiesmeeting of zesty energies prove to be refreshing in their debut single, “We’ll Be Alright” — a song about finding strength through the tides of life.

The first release of a three-track EP mixed by singer and songwriter Dru Chen via Yung Lee Records speaks of love, loss and everything in between, and takes a rather friendly approach to a rather complex topic — a niche 2OFU pulls off expertly. The bright atmosphere of the song pierces deep without much effort, and it’s in the simplicity and clarity of the messagethe simplicity and clarity of the message in the lyrics that this track almost shimmers irridescently.

It seems like Rangga Jones’ knowledge in tasteful audio production is an almost perfect complement to Shye’s unique artistry, and it more than shows in the enthusiasm and chemistry they have with each other. On the collaboration, Rangga said, “Writing ‘We’ll Be Alright’ was pretty smooth because I knew I wanted to write something that reminds us to take things slow, enjoy life a little and to not worry about the past. When I found out Shye was onboard with the 2OFU project I was excited because I’ve wanted to work with her for the longest! She’s super easy to work with and really creative with her melody choices.”

Shye is on the same page. On working with Rangga, she said, “I think the lyrics to the song are really honest but also reassuring. Sometimes we get so caught up with our lives we forget to take it one step at a time. Working with Rangga was lovely! He was really open and easy to work with and is such a talented producer and songwriter himself. I’m really excited to be working on this project with him.”

Accompanied by a lighthearted lyric video, one can only anticipate how the rest of 2OFU’s EP is going to sound like, come the end of the month.
