IKEA Teams Up With Swedish House Mafia For A Collection Tailored To Music Makers

IKEA and Swedish House Mafia launches the OBEGRÄNSAD collection, an array of more than 20 smart home furnishing solutions for producing, performing and listening to music in the home setup.

Often times, the best ideas and talents are manifested raw in the most undiscerning of moments, cradled in the comfort of private, vulnerable, self-care time. This is especially true for music makers and designers — while these “unicorns” come and go as they please, it seems like the more personal the environment, the more authentic the expression can be when translated into physical sight and sound.

But not everyone is privy to an environment that supports the use of the required equipment, much less rent a professional music studio with the proper tools to actually let artists follow through their creative intentions.

Electronic music artists Swedish House Mafia understand that struggle, and have made their serendipitous collaboration with IKEA all about breaking that norm. The OBEGRÄNSAD collection, which translates to “unlimited” in Swedish, aims to empower more rising creatives in music and digital arts to gain access to their perfect home studio at an affordable price.

“We wanted to simplify the process for people to create music. Hopefully our collection inspires and enables more people to be more creative within their home and it does not have to be restricted to only music making, it can be so much more”, says Swedish House Mafia.

Comprising of 20 over smart home furnishing solutions that maximise the music experience at home and beyond, the minimalist and timeless all-black collection supports creative pursuits of those who create, perform, and enjoy music at home. So if you are a fan of music, music producer, DJ, or a a person with limited means but unlimited creativity, this is your sign to plan for a visit to your nearest IKEA when the collection his stores in late October.

The collection spans a LED work, wall and floor lamps, a clock; laptop, tablet, speaker and record stands; a desk, two options of shelving units, an armchair, four options of bags, including an accessory, a record and a laptop bag, rug and sleepers in two sizes, a throw and a cushion cover. There’s also a vinyl player, since the trio all believe that vinyl is the most visceral way to listen to music — this is the perfect opportunity to share that joy, in an affordable way, with more people.

But this collection is especially attractive if you are a DJ-in-training. Take note of the shelving unit that revises the KALLAX bookshelf with an extra space for amplifiers and a higher unit; a desk with speaker stands and a pull-out shelf; stands for a laptop, tablet and speakers; a mix of lighting – including the ambient light in the clock – and soft furnishings that will prove essential for setting your creative juices into flow.

“Look at the collection and the complexity of it: lights, furniture, tech. That would not have been possible with just any collaboration, but collaboration is in the essence of Swedish House Mafia. It’s in everything they do”, says Friso Wiersma, IKEA’s in-house designer.

There is plenty of public evidence in their music, as well as how their expertise in set lighting came together with IKEA’s know-how of mood-making with lights to form three different lamps to replicate that very same function at home. If there’s only one thing we can thank Swedish House Mafia for this year, it would be this gift that keeps on giving.
