#TheUnexpectedFind: Hermès Brings the Brooch Back Fall Winter 2022
Every week, we delve deep into the Dropbox or Google Driver folders sent by brands (or as they call it, a Press Folder) to find something unexpected, desirable and a little bit off-brand. Here we have the Hermès brooch from their Fall Winter ’22 show.

The thing about watching Hermès menswear shows is that you can always imagine yourself living in those clothes. That is the genius of Veronique Nichanian and the way she has established a code for the House that has been consistent during her tenure: self-standing, iconic and exceptionally crafted pieces where practicality is perfection.

With second viewings however, is when you can spot the micro-gestures Nichanian has sprinkled with this particular collection — small details that somehow make big sense when one looks at a look as a whole.

Besides the brooch, the Hermès show was filled with small little schemes of styling that make a difference.

To talk about the Hermès brooch however, would be to talk about its two references. The first, is its silhouette that takes shape from the Chaine d’ancre, an extension of the jewellery line that was first designed by Robert Dumas in 1938 that in turn takes inspiration from a ship anchor chain.

The second, would be to once again talk about the micro-gestures Nichanian has implanted into the show. Call it a lapel pin or a brooch, the Chaine d’ancre version in its glossy black enamel has the ability to live life as a functional, utilitarian item (take it as a more modern way to secure a scarf) or to do what each Hermès item designed by Nichanian is made to do: opening up different ways to style something you already have. In this case, it can be pinned on a suit lapel that is a touch that gets a double-take.

While the specific Hermès brooch from the show is not available on the site, here, different options which includes a Sardine or a Gourmette Equestre version.
