Louis Vuitton’s New LV Trainers Amplify the Power of Circular Creativity

A graphic iteration of the iconic LV trainers pays tribute to the late Virgil Abloh and extends his vision for Louis Vuitton’s sustainable future.

It’s clear that the late beloved designer’s legacy lives on when you realise that Louis Vuitton’s commitment to sustainable development is no short-term stint. Recycling here has become both a mindset and a physical process the Maison takes pride in, and the new LV trainers cut no slacks on being both conceptually and literally environmentally-friendly.

First debuted in the Spring Summer 2019 men’s show, this latest version is now made of 90 percent recycled and bio-sourced materials. The sole, insole, tongue and laces all contain high percentages of recycled polyester, polyurethane, and a corn-based plastic called Biopolioli that was also used in the unisex Charlie sneaker they launched last year.

Sporting the same vintage-basketball shoe shape, the sneakers are now emblazoned with the Sustainable Development logo that Abloh designed—a version of the the iconic monogram placed on clothing items or accessories that are at least 50 percent recycled or made of environmentally-certified raw materials.

The LV Trainers will be released in August in green, and then in red and black versions this September.
