Panerai’s Luminor is more than a luminous paste that it was once named after in 1949 or a family of watches we are now so familiar with. It is the heartbeat of the manufacture, representing Panerai’s innovative and inquisitive mind, which was a critical cornerstone of its early-day endeavours. In the 1950s, the first-ever Panerai Luminor watch, the 6152/1, was unveiled and gained critical acclaim in short order. Since then, the Panerai Luminor has been recognised as a watchmaking icon which bridges modern technology with heritage design nuances.
This year at Watches & Wonders, the Panerai Luminor Marina is backed by several technical changes that further underscore its iconic status. To celebrate this monumental milestone, Panerai teamed up with South Korean singer of 2PM fame and actor Ok Taec-Yeon to spotlight the evolution of its iconic Panerai Luminor Marina. Armed with a commanding screen presence and K-pop roots, Taec-Yeon embodies the brand’s assertive spirit and celebrates the technical innovation and design legacy of the Luminor Marina.
At the heart of the Luminor Marina is the brand-new Calibre P.980, featuring a three-day power reserve. A redesigned and slimmer case construction was also in the works, which resulted in the watch’s water resistance increasing to an impressive 500m. Since legibility is one of Panerai’s core preserves, the “AUTOMATIC” dial text seen on previous models has been omitted to lend the watch dial a cleaner disposition. A brighter and longer-lasting Super-LumiNova® X2 housed in Panerai’s sandwich dial further enhances the watch’s nighttime luminosity.
Five new models were unveiled in this refresh, including the Luminor Marina PAM03312, PAM03313, and PAM03314, all featuring stainless steel cases with black matte, blue sun-brushed, and white matte dials, respectively. The Luminor Marina PAM03325 is clad in lightweight titanium and is paired with a green sun-brushed.
The Luminor Marina PAM03323 reimagines an emblematic model with the introduction of a V-shaped bracelet design that tapers from the case to the buckle, offering a lighter feel for everyday wear. Its aesthetic is characterised by a brushed finish on the interior links and a polished finish on the edges, creating a three-dimensional effect as the light hits the links in different ways. This is also the first model to feature a light blue sun-brushed dial and the new Quick Length Adjustment feature, which allows the bracelet to extend by 2mm on each side while maintaining perfect balance on the wrist.
