As we enjoy the balmy breeze of spring time and slowly transition to the dizzy heat of summer, here are five travel wrist companions to pack on your next adventure, be it to the mountains or a nostalgic trip to the past.
Jetset In Style
Jetset across continents in style with the effortless and urban elegance of the Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 5524G. The release reinterprets its 2015 blue dial predecessor with an ivory shade complimented by a khaki green composite strap, lending the watch a touch of casualness. Apart from its good looks, Patek Philippe doubles down on its functionality with the Travel Time display system controlled by the calibre 26-330 S C FUS. Two watch hands indicate the home and local time — skeletonised for the former and solid for the latter. A pair of pushers on the case side advances the local time forward or backward and is synchronised to the date indicator at six o’clock. A patented safety system prevents accidental manipulations in local time settings. Both time zones each feature a day/night indicator through the apertures at three and nine o’clock.
World Traveller
Jaeger-LeCoultre reinterprets and adapts the quintessential world time complication in the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Geographic. Instead of positioning the world time on the Reverso’s main dial, the maison displays it on the reverse dial to maximise both canvases for artistic expression and horological ingenuity. The map disc features 141 laser-cut hollows hand-filled with blue lacquer to contrast against the cool tones of the stainless steel case that features the city names directly engraved into it. In order to preserve the clean lines of the Art Deco-rich Reverso case, a hidden pusher has been concealed at the top of the case, accessible when the case is removed from the cradle. Apart from the romantic complication, the Calibre 834 features the Grande Date on the main blue sunray dial.
Professional Expeditions
Tudor combines heritage and professional standards in its newest iteration of the Tudor Black Bay Pro. Its robust 200m water-resistant 39mm stainless steel case and fixed bezel are designed to handle various conditions and make for a nifty companion on all expeditions, subterranean or polar. The watch’s opaline dial is contrasted by black ridged watch hands, monobloc ceramic hour indices, and a yellow GMT hand for visibility when tracking a second-time zone. Within the watch lies the ever-reliable automatic Manufacture Calibre MT5652, calibrated to COSC standards to provide top-in-class accuracy on adventures around the world.
Blast From the Past
Race back to the golden age of motorsports with the TAG Heuer Carrera Date Twin-Time. Inspired by the racing livery from eras before, the teal sunray brushed dial evokes motorsports chic complimented by a healthy dose of silver on the flange. As the rightful descendent of the TAG Heuer chronograph, hallmarks of legibility are apparent throughout. An expansive dial with rhodium-plated watch hands and large typeface indices are punctuated by a sliver of red on the fourth GMT hand. TAG Heuer’s new calibre TH31-03 allows its owner to track a secondary timezone, perhaps a motorsport race flag-off timing. Its generous 80-hour power reserve provides uninterrupted accuracy over three days, perfect for weekend getaways.
Summiting Peaks
Journey into the summits with the adventuring Montblanc 1858 Geosphere O Oxygen Monte Rosa Limited Edition, dedicated to Monte Rosa, Western Europe’s second-highest mountain. With the drastic altitude and harsh temperatures in mind, Montblanc incorporated its 0 Oxygen technology into its 42mm rose gold case that eliminates fogging, which can occur with extreme temperature swings at altitude. A pair of rotating globes on the black sfumato glacier pattern dial indicates the world time in the Northern and Southern hemispheres, while an indicator at nine o’clock depicts the dual time function. An engraving of the Monte Rosa massif basking in the sun’s warm glow on the case back acts as the finishing touch to the 100-piece limited edition watch. Montblanc applied a special laser relief engraving and oxidation to the titanium caseback to achieve the colours and remind you of the glorious sunrises from the peak.
