Summer sandals and sneakers are presented in captivating canvas for the Hermès Spring Summer 2023 collection
Hermès continues to be the purveyor of artisanal leather in 2023. Sales have soared for the luxury label since the start of the year, with reports indicating that revenues had increased by 22 per cent, amounting to €3.4 billion from January to March. From the material world to the metaverse, the wins keep rolling in for the French Maison who won a landmark lawsuit against Mason Rothschild for selling the MetaBirkins NFT (non-fungible token) in February. A jury ultimately ruled that Rothschild committed intellectual property infringement by trading NFTs of the iconic bag.
However, the hot topic is the Hermès Spring Summer 2023 menswear shoe range. Artistic director of Hermès’ men’s universe, Véronique Nichanian designed the pieces for ease of movement proving that style does not have to come at the expense of comfort — be it worn on the cobbled runway as seen on the Hermès Spring Summer 2023 showcase, the cement pavements of New York or the great outdoors. Next for the office gentleman and corporate dandies — shiny black derbies in glazed calfskin, brown loafers, and sleek beige mules in suede calfskin are perfect for the modern man about town. Free-sprit creatives can opt for sandals in snug shearling or the latest footwear craze — cowboy boots with a signature black heel (not the average Australian outback cowboy boots). On the runway, the canvas-edged sandals were paired with dynamic knitwear and marine life prints alongside easy earth-tone separates and waterproof raincoats.
It was no surprise that the collection was shown on a cobbled street, evoking a summer walk down the European streets of Paris or Rome. There is an unmistakable whiff of wanderlust in the Hermès shoes — meant to travel and accommodate you throughout that spontaneous urge to travel.
