The Gucci Pineapple Rings in the Laid Back Season

The Gucci Pineapple Rings in The Laid Back Season
The Gucci Pineapple collection — the House’s new decorative motif featuring pineapples and roses — epitomises the laid back sensory states of the coming warmer days.

Models in track jackets and kitsch pineapple motifs teetering around the The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, Los Angeles: this is artistic director’s Alessandro Michele absurd take on the American prep aesthetic for his new Gucci Pineapple collection. As part of the House’s latest Love Parade collection, which Michele showcased among the ‘stars’ in Hollywood last year, the new decorative motif of pineapples and roses are central fixtures to this capsule release.

Yet, the pineapple design is more than just a ‘pretty’ emblem. Part of its insertion recalls coats of arms associated with noble families — think celebrities and socialites of Hollywood’s golden years staying a weekend at one of Chateau Mormont’s many suites. It all leads back to Michele’s narrative of old-world romance for the Spring Summer 2022 season.

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the collection is its overall lighthearted state of mind. Ready-to-wear pieces of fleece tracksuits, enriched by a patch recalling the number 22,705 (Familiar? Because we’ve seen it before in the many Gucci 100 limited edition pieces last year), dispels the very notion of slowness and ease.

But the many preppy elements of Michele are central fixtures to the capsule as well. Formalwear, including a blue and white gingham base jacket and a checked crepe base suit, is paired with holden buttons and patch pockets featuring the pineapple and rose detail. Single-breasted coats and bomber jackets ensure that all formalities in dress are covered in this collection.

As for the accessories, the same disruptive logo adorns a wide array of backpacks, totes, belt bags, suitcases. All items are further enriched by a distinctive blue-red band and the pink wording “WHAT’S INSIDE”, while the Screener, Rhythm and Gucci basket sneakers feature a bright yellow variant of the motif.

#GucciPineapple is now available in select Gucci Singapore stores. View more of the collection here.
