Seán McGirr is Alexander McQueen’s Newest Creative Director

  • By Vanessa Grace Ng

Seán McGirr is replacing Sarah Burton as Alexander McQueen’s creative director.

Seán McGirr has been newly christened as the creative director of Alexander McQueen. McGirr joined JW Anderson in 2020 to head up the men’s collections, eventually adding womenswear to his responsibilities. Prior to that, he was at Dries Van Noten, Burberry, and was also part of Uniqlo’s creative offices in Tokyo and Paris, working on the men’s collections guided by Christophe Lemaire.

The Irish national will replace Sarah Burton, who has overseen the brand as Creative Director for the past 13 years. She showed her swan song collection for the brand just this past SS24 season. “We are delighted to welcome Seán McGirr as Creative Director. With his experience, personality, and creative energy, he will bring a powerful creative language to Alexander McQueen while building on its unique heritage.”, said Gianfilippo Testa, CEO of Alexander McQueen, in a statement on McGirr’s appointment. François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering, added: “Alexander McQueen is a house we are passionate about, and we are confident that Seán McGirr will be able to pursue its journey with a new creative impetus. We look forward to opening this new chapter in the history of this unique brand.”

While the world still buzzes on Sarah Burton’s SS24 finale below — as dedicated to Lee McQueen — we are anticipating the Irishman’s interpretations of Alexander McQueen house codes.
