Mikimoto’s New Passionoir Jewellery Collection Contains Dark EnergyThe Mikimoto Passionoir collection is a daring showcase of creativity and verve.

Mikimoto flips the script on its pearl jewellery by unveiling an entire range distinguished by the colour of power and brooding sophistication. Amplifying the contrast between pearls and jet black metal, the Passionoir collection comprises necklaces, pendants, bracelets, ear cuffs, earrings and a brooch that bring together the best of both worlds: Black South Sea cultured pearls or Akoya cultured pearls, set off against silver or 18K white gold “Japanned Noir” — Mikimoto’s way of describing its jewellery with a black rhodium plating — and highlighted with black spinel or diamond.

The launch of the Passionoir collection in Japan last September was accompanied by the release of the Passionoir series of six original short films, featuring a diverse range of artists, sportsmen and creators sharing their interpretations of what passion means to them and how it keeps them inspired and motivated in their pursuits.

In the short films, representing New York City’s dynamism are professional skateboarder Brandon Scott James, boxer and photographer Charlie Himmelstein, and chef Franco Sampogna, while Tokyo’s vim and vigour are seen through ceramic artist Keisuke Okazaki, BMX champion Haruhiko Owa, and actor-musician Masaki Suda.
