The star of hit-shows like My Love from the Star, The Producers and It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, Kim Soo Hyun proves that prep can be quite pleasing with Tommy Hilfiger’s “Prep, for all” campaign.

Before we talk about the fits that Kim Soo Hyun is flexing for the Tommy Hilfiger “Prep, for all” campaign, we have to introduce the concept of prep itself. While the eighties tome titled “The Official Preppy Handbook” was at WASPy as it can be (#oldmoney), Tommy Hilfiger’s perception of prep today is wildly different.

Of course, he has launched several classics — the cable knit sweaters, anoraks, madras prints, and crisp oxford shirts – for the polo-club crowd but this time around, it has a tropical touch to it.

The classic anorak gets a funky tropical floral print.
Two decades later and Tommy Hilfiger's iconic logo is still as relevant as ever.
The classic prep combo: an anorak jacket and smartly pressed chinos.
Once again, proof of the American brand's logo legacy.
Prep 101: everything looks better with a crisp oxford shirt.

While it is no surprise that Kim Soo Hyun himself has made a comeback for the Tommy Hilfiger “Prep, for all” campaign, it proves two points about the American designer’s genius. Firstly, would be how Hilfiger himself is able to distill today’s dress codes for modern men. We’re constantly on the move (every piece is cut comfortably), we fall back on wardrobe staples as familiar friends (the oxford shirt, chinos, and weather-friendly jacket) and we want something different that doesn’t mark us as fashion victims.

The latter is what Hilfiger has done for the collection: a capsule of pieces with subtle differences: prints and patterns like a floral-camo that fits seamlessly into our wardrobe.

Tech Sail Parka.

Corp Men Sneaker.

As for our latter point, it proves that Hilfiger like Soo Hyun himself, is great at disrupting the industry. The former has become a preppy, hip hop, rock & roll, and street style staple (which designer can you think of that has done this?) while the latter has brought the Hallyu wave to the masses.

While the Tommy Hilfiger “Prep, for all” collection is now available in stores and online, take your time to browse through the pieces. Remember, the magic of Hilfiger’s clothing is in how purposeful it is, and that would be what the designer would want. After all, everything from children’s welfare to sustainability (each piece is made with sustainable tech) is at the heart of the American brand.
