The exact Saint Laurent model that Bai Yufan is wearing? It’s actually a denim jacket in animal-free fur.
Ladies and gentlemen, we’re now in what we call chubby season; a reference to the cropped fuzzy jacket popularised in the ’40s which then became a thing of the public consciousness in the seventies when Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent designed a collection featuring a whole army of them. While a particular portion of the press deemed them suitable only for “tarts”, the rest caught on to what the fuzzy really did.
It was luxurious as it was easygoing and it could make a fashion statement as it kept its wearer warm. It offers a lot of bang for the buck because in certain cases, it is made for transitional dressing. The Saint Laurent version Bai Yufan is wearing above, however, is its most modern iteration yet; a denim version featuring animal-free fur.
Taking the best of both worlds, the chubby denim jacket (chubnim? denbby?) is at once high in style as it is in seriousness. It comes with two buttoned patch pockets with an extra on the chest (chubbies usually come with just shallow side pockets) and with a front button closure, which makes for easy undressing. What makes it a true Saint Laurent piece, however, would be its classic slim fit and pointed collar.
Or, you can take a page out of Bai Yufan’s styling and wear it the true Saint Laurent way: slim jeans, pointed-toe boots, and a handy dandy crossbody bag. The latter is called the Laced Bucket Rive Gauche Bag.
